II Kings 02
Elijah is taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire
Now it came to pass, when the Lord was about to take up Elijah by a whirlwind to heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
And Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Bethel." But Elisha said, "As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." So they went to Bethel.
Then the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came to Elisha and said to him, "Do you know that the Lord will take your master from over you today?" And he said, "I know it also; hold your peace."
And Elijah said to him, "Stay here, Elisha, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho." But he said, "As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." So they came to Jericho.
Then the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take your master from over you today?” He said, “I know it too; hold your peace.”
Elijah said, “Stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they both went together.
Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite; they both stood by the Jordan.
Then Elijah took his mantle, folded it, and struck the waters, and they divided hither and thither, and they both went over on dry ground.
When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”
And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it will be done for thee; but if not, it shall not be done.
And it came to pass, as they went on and talked, that, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
