II Kings 23
The Altar at Bethel Desecrated and Demolished
15 And the altar that was in Bethel, and the high place that Jeroboam the son of Nebat had made, who had made Israel sin, he also tore down that altar, and he burned the high place, and crushed it to powder, and burned the Asherah pole.
16 And Josiah turned and saw the tombs that were there in the hill, and sent and took the bones from the tombs and burned them on the altar, and thus defiled it, according to the word of the LORD, which the man of God had proclaimed when he proclaimed these words.
17 And he said, “What is this monument that I see?” And the men of the city said to him, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came to Judah and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar at Bethel.”
18 And he said, “Let him alone; let no one disturb his bones.” So they left the bones with the bones of the prophet who came from Samaria.
19 Moreover Josiah took away all the houses of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the Lord to anger; and he did to them according to all the acts that he had done at Bethel.
20 And he sacrificed all the priests of the high places who were there on the altars, and burned human bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem.
