एक शेर नबी को मार डालता है

11 और बेतेल में एक बूढ़ा भविष्यद्वक्ता रहता था, और उसके पुत्र ने आकर उस दिन जो कुछ परमेश्वर के भक्त ने बेतेल में किया या, और जो बातें उस ने राजा से कही थीं, उनको सब बता दिया; और उनके पिता को बता दिया।

12 और उसके पिता ने उन से पूछा, वह किस ओर गया? और उसके पुत्रों ने वह मार्ग देखा जिस से परमेश्वर का भक्त यहूदा से निकला या,

13 तब उस ने अपके पुत्रोंसे कहा, मेरे गदहे पर काठी बान्धो। और उन्होंने उसके लिये गधे पर काठी बान्धी, और वह उस पर बैठ गया।

14 और वह परमेश्वर के भक्त के पीछे गया, और उसे एक बांज वृक्ष के नीचे बैठा पाया; और उस से कहा, क्या तू परमेश्वर का भक्त है, जो यहूदा से आया है? और उसने कहा: मैं हूं.

15 तब उस ने उस से कहा, मेरे संग घर में आकर रोटी खा।

16 परन्तु उस ने कहा, मैं तेरे संग लौट नहीं सकता, और तेरे संग भीतर न जाऊंगा; मैं इस स्थान में तुम्हारे साथ न तो रोटी खाऊंगा और न पानी पीऊंगा।

19 और उस ने लौटकर अपके घर में रोटी खाई, और पानी पिया।

20 और ऐसा हुआ कि जब वे भोजन करने बैठे थे, तब यहोवा का सन्देश उस भविष्यद्वक्ता के पास पहुंचा, जो उसे लौटा लाया था।

21 और उस ने परमेश्वर के उस जन को जो यहूदा से आया या, चिल्लाकर कहा, यहोवा यों कहता है, कि तू ने यहोवा के मुख से बलवा किया है, और जो आज्ञा तेरे परमेश्वर यहोवा ने तुझे दी थी उसको नहीं माना;

22 परन्तु तू ने उसी स्यान में लौटकर रोटी खाई, और पानी पिया है, जहां मैं ने तुझ से कहा था, कि तू न रोटी खाना, और न पानी पीना; तुम्हारी लोथ तुम्हारे पुरखाओं की कब्र में प्रवेश न करेगी।

23 और ऐसा हुआ कि जब वह रोटी खा चुका, और पी चुका, तब उस भविष्यद्वक्ता के लिये जिसे वह लौटा ले आया या, उस ने गदहे पर काठी बान्धी।

24 तब वह चला, और मार्ग में एक सिंह उसे मिला, और उसे मार डाला; और उसकी लोय मार्ग में फेंक दी गई, और गदहा उसके पास खड़ा रहा, और सिंह लोथ के पास खड़ा रहा।

25 और देखो, वे लोग उधर से गुजर रहे थे, और मार्ग में एक लोय को पड़ा हुआ, और उसके पास सिंह को खड़ा हुआ देखा; और जिस नगर में बूढ़ा भविष्यद्वक्ता रहता या, उस में आकर इसका समाचार सुनाया।

26 और उस भविष्यद्वक्ता ने जो उसे मार्ग से लौटा ले आया या, उस ने यह सुनकर कहा, यह वही परमेश्वर का जन है, जिस ने यहोवा से बलवा किया है; इस कारण यहोवा ने उसे सिंह के हाथ में कर दिया, और उस वचन के अनुसार जो यहोवा ने उस से कहा था, उस ने उसे फाड़कर मार डाला।

27 तब उस ने अपके पुत्रोंसे कहा, मेरे लिथे गदहे पर काठी बान्धो। उन्होंने उस पर काठी डाल दी.

28 तब उस ने जाकर उसकी लोय मार्ग पर पड़ी हुई पाई, और गदहे और सिंह को लोय के पास खड़े देखा; सिंह ने न लोय को खाया, और न गदहे को फाड़ डाला।

29 तब भविष्यद्वक्ता ने परमेश्वर के भक्त की लोय को उठाकर गदहे पर रखा, और फिर ले चला; तब बूढ़ा भविष्यद्वक्ता विलाप करने और उसे मिट्टी देने को नगर में आया।

30 और उस ने उसका शव अपक्की ही कब्र में रख दिया; और उन्होंने यह कहते हुए उसके लिये शोक मनाया: हाय! मेरा भाई!

31 और उसको मिट्टी देने के बाद उस ने अपके बेटोंसे कहा, जब मैं मर जाऊं, तब मुझे उस कब्र में मिट्टी देना, जिस में परमेश्वर का भक्त गाड़ा गया है; और उसकी हड्डियोंके साय मेरी हड्डियां भी रखना।

32 क्योंकि उस ने बेतेल की वेदी, और शोमरोन के नगरोंके ऊंचे स्थानोंके सब भवनोंके विरूद्ध यहोवा के वचन के द्वारा जो दोहाई दी, वह निश्चय पूरी होगी।

33 इन बातों के बाद यारोबाम अपनी बुरी चाल से न फिरा; उसने सबसे छोटे लोगों के सामने फिर से ऊंचे स्थानों का याजक बनाया; जिसे वह चाहता था, उस का हाथ भर देता था, और इस प्रकार वह ऊंचे स्थानों के याजकों में से एक हो गया।

34 और इस से यारोबाम के घराने ने पाप करवाया, और उसको देश में से नाश किया।

A Lion Kills the Prophet

11 Now there lived an old prophet in Bethel. And his son came and told him all that the man of God had done that day in Bethel, and the words which he had spoken to the king; and they told them to their father.

12 And their father said to them, Which way did he go? And his sons saw the way by which the man of God went, which came from Judah.

13 And he said to his sons, Saddle me a donkey. And they saddled the donkey for him, and he sat upon it.

14 And he went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God which camest from Judah? And he said, I am.

15 And he said unto him, Come with me into the house, and eat bread.

16 And he said, I cannot return with thee, neither will I go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place.

17 For I was commanded by the word of the Lord, saying, You shall neither eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by the way that you came.

18 And he said to him, I am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water. (But he lied to him.)

19 And he returned and ate bread in his house and drank water.

20 And it came to pass, while they were at meat, that the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had brought him back.

21 And he cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, saying, Thus says the Lord: Because you have rebelled against the mouth of the Lord, and have not kept the commandment which the Lord your God commanded you;

22 But you returned and ate bread and drank water in the place of which I told you, ‘You shall not eat bread or drink water; your body will not come into the tomb of your fathers.’

23 And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread and drunk, that he saddled the donkey for the prophet whom he had brought back.

24 And he went, and a lion met him in the way, and killed him; and his body was cast in the way, and the donkey stood by it, and the lion stood by the body.

25 And, behold, men passed by, and saw the body cast in the way, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.

26 And when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard it, he said, ‘It is the man of God who rebelled against the mouth of the Lord; Therefore the Lord gave him over to the lion, which tore him to pieces and killed him, according to the word of the Lord which He had spoken to him.

27 Then he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled it.

28 So he went and found his body thrown in the road, and the donkey and the lion that were standing by the carcass had not been devoured by the lion, nor had it torn the donkey.

29 Then the prophet lifted up the body of the man of God, laid it on the donkey, and carried it away again. So the old prophet went to the city to mourn and to bury him.

30 And he laid his body in his own tomb; and they mourned for him, saying, “Oh, my brother! 31 And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake unto his sons, saying, When I die, bury me in the sepulchre where the man of God is buried: and lay my bones beside his bones.

32 For that which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar that is in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places that are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.

33 After these things Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way; but again he made priests of the high places before the least of the people; and he filled his hand whomsoever he wished, and so he was one of the priests of the high places.

34 And this was a sin unto the house of Jeroboam, to destroy it, and to destroy it from the face of the earth.

11 E morava em Betel um profeta velho: e veio seu filho, e contou-lhe tudo o que o homem de Deus fizera aquele dia em Betel, e as palavras que dissera ao rei; e as contaram a seu pai.

12 E disse-lhes seu pai: Por que caminho se foi? E viram seus filhos o caminho por onde fora o homem de Deus que viera de Judá,

13 Então disse a seus filhos: Albardai-me um jumento. E albardaram-lhe o jumento, e montou nele.

14 E foi-se após o homem de Deus e o achou assentado debaixo de um carvalho: e disse-lhe: ès tu o homem de Deus que vieste de Judá? E ele disse: Eu sou.

15 Então lhe disse: Vem comigo à casa e come pão.

16 Porém ele disse: Não posso voltar contigo, nem entrarei contigo; nem tão pouco comerei pão, nem beberei contigo água neste lugar.

17 Porque me foi mandado pela palavra do Senhor: Ali nem comerás pão, nem beberás água; nem tornarás a ir pelo caminho por que foste.

18 E ele lhe disse: Também eu sou profeta como tu, e um  anjo me falou pela palavra do Senhor, dizendo: Faze-o voltar contigo a tua casa, para que coma pão e beba água. ( Porém mentiu-lhe. )

19 E tornou ele e comeu pão em sua casa e bebeu água.

20 E sucedeu que, estando eles à mesa, a palavra do Senhor veio ao profeta que o tinha feito voltar.

21 E clamou ao homem de Deus, que viera de Judá, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor: Porquanto foste rebelde à boca do Senhor, e não guardaste o mandamento que o Senhor teu Deus te mandara;

22 Antes voltaste, e comeste pão e bebeste água, no lugar de que te dissera: Não comerás pão nem beberás água; o teu cadáver não entrará no sepulcro de teus pais.

23 E sucedeu que, depois que comeu pão, e depois que bebeu, albardou ele o jumento para o profeta que fizera voltar.

24 Foi-se pois e um leão o encontrou no caminho, e o matou: e o seu cadáver estava lançado no caminho, e o jumento estava parado junto a ele, e o leão estava junto ao cadáver.

25 E eis que os homens passaram, e viram o corpo lançado no caminho, como também o leão, que estava junto ao corpo: e vieram, e o disseram na cidade onde o profeta velho habitava.

26 E, ouvindo-o o profeta que o fizera voltar do caminho, disse: É o homem de Deus, que foi rebelde à boca do Senhor; por issi o Senhor o entregou ao leão, que o despedaçou e matou, segundo a palavra que o Senhor lhe tinha dito.

27 Então disse a seus filhos: Albardai-me o jumento. Eles o albardaram.

28 Então foi e achou o seu cadáver lançado no caminho, e o jumento e o leão, que estavam parados junto ao cadáver o leão não tinha devorado o corpo, nem tinha despedaçado o jumento.

29 Então o profeta levantou o cadáver do homem de Deus, e pô-lo em cima do jumento e o tornou a levar: assim veio o profeta velho à cidade, para o chorar e enterrar.

30 E meteu o seu cadáver no seu próprio sepulcro; e prantearam-no dizendo: Ah! irmão meu!

31 E sucedeu que, depois de haver sepultado, falou a seus filhos, dizendo: Morrendo eu, sepultai-me no sepulcro em que o homem de Deus está sepultado: ponde os meus ossos junto aos ossos dele.

32 Porque certamente se cumprirá o que pela palavra do Senhor clamou contra o altar que está em Betel, como também contra todas as casas dos altos que estão nas cidades de Samaria.

33 Depois destas coisas, Jeroboão não deixou o seu mau caminho; antes dos mais baixos do povo tornou a fazer sacerdotes dos lugares altos; a quem queria lhe enchia a mão, e assim era um dos sacerdotes dos lugares altos.

34 E isso foi causa de pecado à casa de Jeroboão, para destruí-la e extingui-la da terra.

1 और देखो, परमेश्वर का एक जन यहोवा का वचन लेकर यहूदा से बेतेल को आया; और यारोबाम धूप जलाने को वेदी के पास खड़ा हुआ।

2 और उस ने यहोवा का वचन सुनाकर वेदी के विरूद्ध चिल्लाकर कहा, हे वेदी, हे वेदी! यहोवा यों कहता है, देख, दाऊद के घराने में एक पुत्र उत्पन्न होगा, जिसका नाम योशिय्याह होगा, और ऊंचे स्थानोंके याजक जो तुझ पर धूप जलाते हैं उनको तेरे लिथे बलिदान करेगा, और मनुष्योंकी हड्डियां तुझ पर जलाएगा।

3 और उसी दिन उस ने एक चिन्ह दिया, कि जो चिन्ह यहोवा ने कहा है वह यह है, कि देख, वेदी फट जाएगी, और उस पर की राख फैल जाएगी।

4 जब राजा ने परमेश्वर के भक्त का वचन सुना, जो उस ने बेतेल की वेदी के विरूद्ध पुकारा या, तब यारोबाम ने वेदी के ऊपर से हाथ बढ़ाकर कहा, इसे उस से ले ले। परन्तु उसका हाथ, जो उस ने उसकी ओर बढ़ाया था, सूख गया, और वह उसे फिर अपने पास न ला सका।

5 और वेदी फट गई, और वेदी पर से राख बहने लगी; उस चिन्ह के अनुसार जो परमेश्वर के जन ने यहोवा के वचन के द्वारा ठहराया था।

6 तब राजा ने परमेश्वर के भक्त को उत्तर दिया, अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा से प्रार्थना करके मेरे लिये प्रार्थना करो, कि मेरा हाथ फिर मुझ पर आ जाए। तब परमेश्वर के भक्त ने यहोवा से प्रार्थना की, और राजा का हाथ फिर ज्यों का त्यों हो गया।

7 और राजा ने परमेश्वर के भक्त से कहा, मेरे संग घर आओ, और शान्ति पाओ; और मैं तुम्हें एक उपहार दूँगा.

8 परन्तु परमेश्वर के भक्त ने राजा से कहा, चाहे तू मुझे अपके घर का आधा भाग भी दे, तौभी तू मेरे संग न चलेगा, और न इस स्यान में रोटी खाएगा, और न पानी पीएगा।

9 क्योंकि यहोवा ने अपके वचन के द्वारा मुझे यों आज्ञा दी, कि न तो रोटी खाना, और न पानी पीना; और जिस मार्ग से तुम गए हो उसी मार्ग से तुम फिर न लौटोगे।

10 और वह दूसरी ओर चला गया; और वह जिस मार्ग से बेतेल को आया या, उस मार्ग से न लौटा।

A Prophet Prophesying Against the Altar

1 Now behold, a man of God came from Judah with the word of the Lord to Bethel, and Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.

2 And he cried out against the altar with the word of the Lord, and said, “Altar, altar! thus says the Lord: Behold, a son will be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and he will sacrifice on you the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and men’s bones will be burned on you.”

3 And he gave a sign that same day, saying, “This is the sign of which the Lord spoke: Behold, the altar will be split open, and the ashes that are on it will be poured out.”

4 And it came to pass, when the king heard the word of the man of God who had cried out against the altar in Bethel, that Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, and said, “Take hold of him.” But his hand, which he stretched out against him, dried up, and he could not bring it back to himself.

5 And the altar was split, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had appointed by the word of the LORD.

6 Then the king answered and said to the man of God, Pray to the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me. Then the man of God prayed to the LORD, and the king's hand was restored, and became as before.

7 And the king said to the man of God, Come with me to the house, and refresh yourself, and I will give you a present.

8 But the man of God said to the king, Even if you would give me half your house, I would not go with me, nor would I eat bread nor drink water in this place.

9 For so the LORD commanded me by his word, saying, You shall neither eat bread nor drink water, nor return by the way that you came.

10 And he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.

1 E eis que um homem de Deus veio de Judá com a palavra do Senhor a Betel: e Jeroboão estava junto ao altar, para queimar incenso.

2 E clamou contra o altar com a palavra do Senhor, e disse: Altar, altar! assim diz o Senhor: Eis que um filho nascerá à casa de Davi, cujo nome será Josias, o qual sacrificará sobre ti os sacerdotes dos altos que queimam sobre ti incenso, e ossos de homens se queimarão sobre ti.

3 E deu naquele mesmo dia um sinal, dizendo: Este é o sinal de que o Senhor falou: Eis que o altar se fenderá, e a cinza, que nele está, se derramará.

4 Sucedeu, pois que, ouvindo o rei a palavra do homem de Deus, que clamara contra o altar de Betel, Jeroboão estendeu a sua mão de sobre o altar, dizendo: Pegai dele. Mas a sua mão, que estendera contra ele, se secou, e não a podia tornar a trazer a si.

5 E o altar, se fendeu, e a cinza se derramou do altar; segundo o sinal que o homem de Deus apontara pela palavra do Senhor.

6 Então respondeu o rei, e disse ao homem de Deus: Ora à face do Senhor teu Deus, e roga por mim, que a minha mão se me restitua. Então o homem de Deus orou à face do Senhor, e a mão do rei se restituiu e ficou como dantes.

7 E o rei disse ao homem de Deus: Vem comigo à casa, e conforta-te; e dar-te-ei um presente.

8 Porém o homem de Deus disse ao rei: Ainda que me desses metade da tua casa, não iria comigo, nem comeria pão nem beberia água neste lugar.

9 Porque assim me ordenou o Senhor pela sua palavra, dizendo: Não comerás pão nem beberás água; e não voltarás pelo caminho por onde foste.

10 E foi-se por outro caminho; e não voltou pelo caminho, por onde viera a Betel.

28 तब राजा ने सम्मति करके सोने के दो बछड़े बनवाए; और उन से कहा, तुम को यरूशलेम तक जाना बहुत कठिन होगा; हे इस्राएल, अपने देवताओं को यहां देख, जो तुम्हें मिस्र देश से निकाल ले आए।

30- और यह काम पाप हो गया; क्योंकि लोग दण्डवत् करने को दान को गए।

26- And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now the kingdom will return to the house of David.

27 If this people will go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will return to their lord, to Rehoboam king of Judah.

28- So the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said to them, It will be too much trouble for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold, O Israel, your gods, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

29- And he set one in Bethel, and he set the other in Dan.

30- And the thing became a sin: for the people went every man to Dan to worship.

31- And he made high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

32 Then Jeroboam held a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that was held in Judah, and he sacrificed on the altar. He did the same in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made. He also set priests in Bethel for the high places that he had made.

33 And he sacrificed on the altar that he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month that he had devised in his heart. Thus he held a feast for the children of Israel, and sacrificed on the altar, burning incense.

27 Se este povo subir para fazer sacrifícios na casa do Senhor, em Jerusalém, o coração deste povo se tornará ao seu senhor, a Roboão, rei de Judá.

28- Pelo que o rei tomou conselho, e fez dois bezerros de ouro; e lhes disse: Muito trabalho vos será a subir a Jerusalém; vês aqui teus deuses, ó Israel, que te fizeram subir da terra do Egito.

29- E pôs um em Betel, e colocou o outro em Dã.

30- E este feito se tornou em pecado; pois que o povo ia até Dã cada um a adorar.

31- Também fez casa dos altos: e fez sacerdotes dos mais baixos do povo, que não eram dos filhos de Levi.

32 E fez Jeroboão uma festa no oitavo mês, no dia décimo-quinto do mês, como a festa que se fazia em Judá, e sacrificou no altar: semelhantemente fez em Betel, sacrificando aos bezerros que fizera: também em Betel estabeleceu sacerdotes dos altos que fizera.

33- E sacrificou no altar que fizera em Betel, no dia décimo-quinto do oitavo mês, do mês que ele tinha imaginado no seu coração: assim fez a festa aos filhos de Israel, e sacrificou no altar, queimando incenso.

16 जब सब इस्राएल ने देखा, कि राजा हमारी नहीं सुनता, तब प्रजा ने फिर उस से कहा, दाऊद से हमारा क्या काम? और यिशै के पुत्र में हमारे लिये कोई निज भाग नहीं। हे इस्राएल, अपने डेरे को चले गए।

17 परन्तु जो इस्राएली यहूदा के नगरोंमें रहते थे, रहूबियाम उन पर राज्य करता रहा।

18 तब राजा रहूबियाम ने अदोराम के पास जो करोंके ऊपर या, कहला भेजा; और सारे इस्राएल ने उस पर पथराव किया, और वह मर गया; परन्तु राजा रहूबियाम को यरूशलेम से भागने के लिये अपने रथ पर चढ़ने का साहस हुआ।

19 इस प्रकार इस्राएली आज के दिन तक दाऊद के घराने से अलग हो गए।

16- When all Israel saw that the king would not listen to them, the people answered him again, saying, "What portion have we in David? And there is no inheritance for us in the son of Jesse. Your tents, O Israel, have gone to their tents."

17- But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

18- Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute, and all Israel stoned him with stones, and he died. But King Rehoboam dared to get into his chariot to flee from Jerusalem.

19- So the Israelites have separated themselves from the house of David to this day.

20- And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, that they sent and summoned him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: and none followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

21- And Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, and gathered together all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, that were fit for war, to fight against the house of Israel, to restore the kingdom to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

22- And the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

23- Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah, and to Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

24- Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house, for I have done this work. And they hearkened to the word of the Lord, and returned according to the word of the Lord.

25- Then Jeroboam built Shechem in Mount Ephraim, and dwelt there; and he went out from there, and built Penuel.

18- Então o rei Roboão enviou a Adorão, que estava sobre os tributos; e todo o Israel o apedrejou com pedras e morreu: mas o rei Roboão se animou a subir ao seu carro para fugir de Jerusalém.

19- Assim se desligaram os Israelitas da casa de Davi até ao dia de hoje.

Rehoboam Causes Separation Between the Tribes

1- And Rehoboam went to Shechem; for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.

2- And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, while he was yet in Egypt (for he had fled from the face of King Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt),

3- They sent and called him: and Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

4- Thy father made our yoke heavy: now therefore lighten the grievous bondage of thy father, and the heavy yoke which he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

5- And he said unto them, Go your way by the third day, and come again unto me. And the people departed.

6- Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who stood before Solomon his father while he was still alive, saying, "What do you advise that we answer this people?"

7- And they spoke to him, saying, "If you will be a servant to this people today, and serve them, and speak good words in return, then they will be your servants forever."

8- But he forsook the advice that the elders had advised him, and consulted with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.

9- And he said to them, "What do you advise that we answer this people who spoke to me, saying, 'Lighten the yoke that your father put on us'?"

10- And the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, "This is what you should say to this people who spoke to you, saying, 'Your father made our yoke very heavy, but you lighten it from us.' Thus you shall say to him, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.’

11 So then, though my father laid a heavy yoke on you, I will add to your yoke. My father punished you with stripes, but I will punish you with scorpions.

12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had said, “Come back to me on the third day.”

13 And the king answered the people harshly, for he had forsaken the advice that the elders had given him.

14 And he spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying, ‘My father made your yoke heavier, but I will add to your yoke. My father punished you with stripes, but I will punish you with scorpions.’

15 So the king would not listen to the people; for this rebellion was from the Lord, to confirm the word that the Lord had spoken through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam son of Nebat.

14 Now the Lord raised up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Idumean, who was of the seed of the king of Edom.

15 Now it came to pass, when David was in Edom, that Joab the captain of the host went up to bury the slain, that he smote every male in Edom.

16 (For Joab dwelt there six months with all Israel, until he had destroyed every male in Edom.)

17 But Hadad fled, he and some of his father's servants, the Idumeans, with him, to go to Egypt; but Hadad was a young man.

18 And they arose from Midian, and came to Paran, and took men with them from Paran, and came to Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he gave him a house, and promised him food, and gave him land.

19 And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, and he gave him his wife's sister, the sister of Tacpenes the queen.

 28 Now Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor. and Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he put him in charge of all the house of Joseph.

32 But he will have one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.

33 Because they have forsaken me and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the Ammonites, and have not walked in my ways to do what is right in my eyes, even my statutes and my ordinances, as David their father did.

34 However, I will not take anything of the kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him prince all the days of his life for the sake of David my servant, whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes.

35 But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand and give it to you, its ten tribes.

36 And I will give one tribe to his son, so that David my servant may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city I chose to put my name there.

37 And I will take you, and you shall reign over all that your soul desires; and you shall be king over Israel.

38 And it shall come to pass, if you will hearken to all that I command you, and walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my sight, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as my servant David did, that I will be with you, and will build you a sure house, as I built David, and will give Israel to you.

39 And I will afflict the seed of David therefore, yet not for ever.

40 Therefore Solomon sought to kill Jeroboam: but Jeroboam arose, and fled to Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt: and he was in Egypt until Solomon died.

15 Porque sucedeu que, estando Davi em Edom, e subindo Joabe, o chefe do exército, a enterrar os mortos, feriu a todo o varão em Edom.

16 ( Porque Joabe ficou ali seis meses com todo o Israel, até que destruiuma todo varão em Edom).

17 Hadade, porém fugiu, ele e alguns homens idumeus, dos servos de seu pai, com ele, para ir ao Egito: era porém Hadade um rapaz pequeno.

18 E levantaram-se de Midiã e vieram a Parã, e tomaram consigo homens de Parã, e vieram ao Egito a Faraó, rei do Egito, o qual lhe deu uma casa, e lhe prometeu sustento, e lhe deu uma terra.

19 E achou Hadade grande graça aos olhos de Faraó: de maneira que lhe deu por mulher, a irmã de sua mulher a irmã de Tacpenes, a rainha.

25 E foi adversário de Israel por todos os dias de Salomão, e isto além do mal que Hadade fazia: porque detestava a Israel, e reinava sobre a Síria.

26 Até Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, efrateu de Zereda, servo de Salomão ( cuja mãe era mulher viúva, por nome Zerua), também levantou a mão contra o rei.

27 E esta foi a causa, porque levantou a mão contra o rei: Salomão tinha edificado a Milo, e cerrou as aberturas da cidade de Davi, seu pai.

28 E o homem Jeroboão era varão valente; e vendo Salomão a este mancebo, que era laborioso, ele o pôs sobre todo o cargo da casa de José.

29 Sucedeu pois naquele tempo que saindo Jeroboão de Jerusalém, o encontrou o profeta Aías, o silonita, no caminho, e ele se tinha vestido de um vestido novo, e sós estavam os dois no campo.

1 King Solomon loved many foreign women, besides Pharaoh's daughter, Moabites, Ammonites, Edumeans, Sidonians and Hittites.

2 From the nations where the Lord had said to the Israelites, "You shall not go in to them, and they shall not go in to you; otherwise they will turn your hearts after their gods." Solomon loved them.

3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned his heart away.

 4 When Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, like the heart of David his father. 

5 For Solomon followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians and followed Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

 6 So Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not fully follow the LORD, as David his father had done. 

7 Then Solomon built a high place for Hamos, the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites. 

8 And he did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods. 

9 Therefore the LORD was angry with Solomon, because he had turned his heart away from the LORD God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. 

10 And concerning this matter he had commanded him that he should not follow other gods: but he did not keep that which the LORD commanded him.

 11 And the LORD said unto Solomon, Because this thing hath been done unto thee, and hast not kept my covenant and my statutes which I have commanded thee, I will surely tear the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant. 

12 Yet in thy days I will not do it, for the sake of David thy father: I will tear it out of the hand of thy son. 

13 But I will not tear the whole kingdom: I will give one tribe to thy son, for the sake of my servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.

14- And the weight of the gold that was brought to Solomon yearly was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold;

15- Besides the merchants, and the hire of the spice merchants, and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the land.

16- And King Solomon made two hundred bucklers of beaten gold; six hundred shekels of gold he weighed for each buckler;

17- And three hundred shields of beaten gold he weighed for each shield; and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

18- And the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.

19- And the throne had six steps, and the head of the throne was round behind, and had a backrest on both sides up to the seat: and two lions stood by the backrests.

20 There were twelve lions on the six steps on either side; nothing like it had ever been done in any of the kingdoms.

21 All King Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; there was no silver in them, for it was not valued in the days of Solomon.

22 For the king had the navies of Tarshish at sea with the navies of Hiram; and the navies of Tarshish returned once in three years, bringing gold and silver, ivory, apes and peacocks.

23 So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.

24 And all the earth sought the face of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.

26 And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen, so that he had one thousand four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen: and he brought them into the chariot cities; and others remained with the king in Jerusalem.

27 And the king made silver in Jerusalem as great as stones, and cedars as plentiful as the sycamore trees that are in the plain.

28 And they brought horses out of Egypt for Solomon: and the king's merchants took them by droves, a herd for a certain price.

29 And a chariot went up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty: and so they brought them out by their means for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria.

18- Fez mais o rei um grande trono de marfim, e o cobriu de ouro puríssimo.

19 Tinha este trono seis degraus, e era a cabeça do trono por detrás redonda, e de ambas as bandas tinha encosto até o assento: e dois leões estavam junto aos encostos.

20 Também doze leões estavam ali sobre os seis degraus de ambas as bandas; nunca se tinha feito obra semelhante em nenhum dos reinos.

21 Também todos os vasos de beber do rei Salomão eram de ouro, e todos os vasos da casa do bosque do Líbano eram de ouro puro: não havia neles prata, porque nos dias de Salomão não tinha estimação alguma.

2-And she came to Jerusalem with a very great army, with camels laden with spices, and very much gold, and precious stones; and she came to Solomon, and told him all that was in her heart.

3-And Solomon told her all his words: there was nothing hidden from the king, that he did not tell him.

4-And when the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built,

5-And the food on his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the arrangement of his attendants, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up to the house of the Lord, there was no more breath in her.

9-Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel; because the Lord loved Israel forever, therefore he made you king, to do justice and righteousness.

10-And she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, and very many spices and precious stones; never had spices come in such abundance as that which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.

1-E ouvindo a rainha de Sabá a fama de Salomão, acerca do nome do Senhor, veio prova-lo por enigmas.

2-E veio a Jerusalém com mui grande exército; com camelos carregados de especiarias, e muitíssimo ouro e pedras preciosas; e veio a Salomão, e disse-lhe tudo quanto tinha no seu coração.

3-E Salomão lhe declarou todas as suas palavras: nenhuma coisa se escondeu ao rei, que não lhe declarasse.

4-Vendo pois a rainha de Sabá toda a sabedoria de Salomão, e a casa que edificara,

5-E a comida de sua mesa, e o assentar de seus servos, e o estar de seus criados, e os vestidos deles, e os seus copeiros, e a sua subida, pela qual subia à casa do Senhor, não houve mais espírito nela.

6-E disse ao rei: Foi verdade a palavra que ouvi na minha terra, das tuas coisas e da tua sabedoria.

7-E eu não cria naquelas palavras, até que vim, e os meus olhos o viram; eis que não disseram metade; sobrepujaste em sabedoria e bens a fama que ouvi.

8-Bem-aventurados os teus homens, bem-aventurados estes teus servos que estão sempre diante de ti, que ouvem a tua sabedoria!

9-Bendito seja o Senhor teu Deus, que teve agrado de ti,para te pôr no trono de Israel: porque o Senhor ama a Israel para sempre, por isso te estabeleceu rei, para fazeres juízo e justiça.

10- E deu ao rei cento e vinte talentos de ouro, e muitíssimas especiarias e pedras preciosas: nunca veio especiaria em tanta abundância, como a que a rainha de Sabá deu ao rei Salomão.

11- Também as naus de Hirão, que de Ofir levavam ouro, traziam de Ofir muitíssima madeira de almugue, e pedras preciosas.

12- E desta madeira de almugue fez o rei balaústres para a casa do Senhor, e para a casa do rei, como também harpas e alaúdes para os cantores: nunca veio tal madeira de almugue, nem se viu até o dia de hoje.

13 E o rei Salomão de à rainha de Sabá tudo quanto lhe pediu o seu desejo, além do que lhe deu, segundo a largueza do rei Salomão: então voltou e partiu para a sua terra, ela e seus servos.

2- The Lord appeared to Solomon again, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

3- And the Lord said to him, I have heard your prayer, and your supplication which you have made before me: I have hallowed the house which you have built, to put my name there forever: and my eyes and my heart shall be there always.

4- And if you walk before me, as David your father walked, with all your heart and sincerity, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, 5- Then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I spoke concerning David your father, saying, 'You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel. ' 6- But if you or your sons turn away from me at all, and do not keep my commandments and my statutes that I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them, 7- Then I will destroy Israel from the land that I have given them, and I will cast out this house, which I have consecrated for my name, from my presence; and Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples. 8- And because of this house, which is so high, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss and say, "Why has the Lord done this to this land and to this house?" 9- And they will say, "Because they have forsaken the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have bowed down to them and served them; therefore the Lord has brought all this evil on them." 10- And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, that Solomon had built two houses, the house of the Lord and the house of the king. 11- {For this reason Hiram king of Tyre had brought Solomon cedar and fir trees and gold, according to all his desire.} Then King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities out of the land of Galilee. 12- And Hiram went out of Tyre to see the cities that Solomon had given him, but they did not please him. 13- And he said, What cities are these that thou hast given me, my brother? 1- Sucedeu pois que, acabando Salomão de edificar a casa do Senhor, e a casa do rei, e todo o desejo de Salomão, que lhe veio à vontade fazer,

2- O senhor tornou a aparecer a Salomão, como lhe tinha aparecido em Gibeom.

3- E o Senhor lhe disse: Ouvi a tua oração, e a tua súplica que suplicando fizeste perante mim; santifiquei a casa que edificaste, a fim de pôr ali o meu nome para sempre: e os meus olhos e o meu coração estarão ali todos os dias.

4- E se tu andares perante mim como andou Davi teu pai, com inteireza de coração e com sinceridade, para fazeres segundo tudo o que te mandei, e guardares os meus estatutos e os meus juízos,

5- Então confirmarei o trono de teu reino sobre Israel para sempre, como falei acerca de teu pai Davi, dizendo: Não te faltará varão sobre o trono de Israel.

6- Porém se vós e vossos filhos de qualquer maneira vos apartardes de mim, e não guardardes os meus mandamentos, e os meus estatutos, que vos tenho proposto, mas fordes, e servirdes a outros deuses, e vos curvardes perante eles,

7- Então destruirei a Israel da terra que lhes dei; e a esta casa, que santifiquei a meu nome, lançarei longe da minha presença: e Israel será por ditado e mote, entre todos os povos.

8- E desta casa, que é tão exaltada, todo aquele que por ela passar pasmará e assobiará e dirá: Por que fez o Senhor assim a esta terra e a esta casa?

9- E dirão: Porque deixaram ao Senhor seu Deus, que tirou da terra do Egito a seus pais, e se encurvaram perante eles, e os serviram: por isso trouxe o Senhor sobre eles todo este mal.

10- E sucedeu, ao fim de vinte anos, que Salomão edificara as duas casas; a casa do Senhor e a casa do rei.

13- Pelo que disse: Que cidades são estas que me deste, irmão meu? E chamaram-nas: Terra de Cabuli, até hoje.
