13 न ही मेरे लोगों की मुसीबत के दिन उनके दरवाज़े में घुसना चाहिए था; हाँ, तुम्हें उनकी मुसीबत के दिन उनकी बदकिस्मती को देखकर खुश नहीं होना चाहिए था; न ही उनकी मुसीबत के दिन उनकी सेना पर हाथ बढ़ाना चाहिए था;

14 न ही चौराहे पर खड़े होकर बचने वालों को मार डालना चाहिए था; न ही उनकी मुसीबत के दिन बचे हुए लोगों को सौंपना चाहिए था।

1 The Vision of Obadiah: This is what the Sovereign Lord says concerning Edom: “We have heard a report from the Lord, and an ambassador has been sent to the nations, saying, ‘Rise up, and let us go up against her to battle.’

2 “See, I have made you small among the nations; you are greatly despised.

3 The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rocks, whose habitation is high, who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’

4 Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.

5 If thieves came to you, if robbers by night (how you are destroyed!), would they not steal only enough for themselves? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some clusters of grapes?

6 How Esau’s possessions were sought out! How thoroughly their hiding places have been searched!

7 All your allies have driven you out of your borders; those who enjoy your peace have deceived you, they have prevailed against you; those who eat your bread have laid a trap for you; there is no understanding in Edom.

8 And will it not happen on that day, declares the Lord, that I will cause the wise men of Edom to prevail, and understanding in the mountains of Esau?

9 And your mighty men, Teman, will be dismayed, so that everyone from the mountains of Esau will be cut off by slaughter.

10 Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever.

11 On the day you stood before him, on the day when foreigners carried off his army captive, and strangers entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you yourself were among them.

12 But you should not have gloated over your brother on the day of his exile; nor rejoiced over the people of Judah on the day of their ruin; nor spoken aloud on the day of their distress;

13 Nor entered the gate of my people on the day of their calamity; yes, you should not have looked on with satisfaction at their misfortune on the day of their calamity; nor stretched out your hands against their army on the day of their calamity;

14 Nor stood at the crossroads to cut off those who escaped; nor handed over those who remained on the day of their distress.

15 For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations; as you have done, so it will be done to you; your wickedness will fall upon your own head.

16 For as you drank on my holy mountain, so all the nations will drink continually; they will drink and swallow, and they will be as though they had never been.

17 But on Mount Zion there will be deliverance; it will be holy; and the house of Jacob will possess their inheritances.

18 The house of Jacob will be a fire, the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau stubble; they will kindle fire against them and consume them, and no one will remain of the house of Esau, for the Lord has spoken.

19 Those from the south will possess the mountain of Esau, and those from the plains the Philistines; they will also possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria; and Benjamin and Gilead.

20 The captives of this army of the children of Israel, who are among the Canaanites, will possess as far as Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, will possess the cities of the south.

21 Saviors will arise on Mount Zion to judge the mountain of Esau; and the kingdom will be the Lord's.

1 Visão de Obadias: Assim diz o Senhor Jeová a respeito de Edom: Temos ouvido a pregação do Senhor, e foi enviado às nações um embaixador, dizendo: Levantai-vos, e levantemo-nos contra ela para a guerra.

2 Eis que te fiz pequeno entre as nações; tu mui desprezado.

3 A soberba do teu coração te enganou, como o que habita nas fendas das rochas, na sua alta morada, que diz no seu coração: Quem me derrubará em terra?

4 Se te elevares como águia, e puseres o teu ninho entre as estrelas, dali te derrubarei, diz o Senhor.

5 Se viessem a ti ladrões, ou roubadores de noite (como estás destruído!) não furtariam o que lhes bastasse? Se a ti viessem os vindimadores, não deixariam alguns cachos?

6 Como foram buscados os bens de Esaú! Como foram esquadrinhados os seus esconderijos!

7 Todos os teus confederados te levaram para fora dos teus limites: os que gozam da tua paz te enganaram, prevaleceram contra ti; os que comem o teu pão puseram debaixo de ti uma armadilha: não há em Edom entendimento.

8 E não acontecerá naquele dia, diz o Senhor, que farei prevalecer os sábios de Edom, e o entendimento na montanha de Esaú?

9 E os teus valentes, o Temã, estarão atemorizados, para que da montanha de Esaú seja cada um exterminado pela matança.

10 Por causa da violência feita a teu irmão Jacó, cobrir-te-á a confusão, e serás exterminado para sempre.

11 No dia em que estiveste em frente dele, no dia em que os forasteiros levavam cativo o seu exército, e os estranhos entravam pelas suas portas, e lançavam sortes sobre Jerusalém, tu mesmo eras um deles.

12 Mas tu não devias olhar para o dia de teu irmão, no dia do seu desterro; nem alegrar-te sobre os filhos de Judá, no dia da sua ruína; nem alargar a tua boca, no dia da angústia;

1 I saw the Lord standing upon the altar, and he said unto me, Strike the capital, and let the thresholds shake, and break it in pieces upon the head of them all: and I will slay with the sword every last one of them: he that fleeeth among them shall not escape, neither shall he that escapeth among them be saved.

2 Though they dig down to hell, from thence shall my hand take them: and though they climb up to heaven, from thence shall I bring them down.

3 And though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, from thence shall I search them out, and take them: and though they hide themselves from my sight in the depths of the sea, there shall I command the serpent, and it shall bite them.

4 And though they go into captivity before their enemies, there shall I command the sword to slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.

5 For the Lord, the Lord of hosts, is he that toucheth the earth, and it melteth; and all that dwell therein shall mourn: and it shall rise up as the great river, and be submerged as Egypt.

6 He is he that buildeth his chambers in the heavens, and hath founded his vault upon the earth; and he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: the Lord is his name.

7 Are ye not to me, O children of Israel, as the children of the Ethiopians? saith the Lord: did I not bring up Israel out of the land of Egypt, and the Philistines out of Caphtor, and the Syrians out of Kir?

8 Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are upon this sinful kingdom; and I will destroy it from the face of the earth: but I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the Lord.

9 For behold, I will command, and I will shake the house of Israel among all nations, as grain is shaken in a sieve, yet not a single grain will fall to the ground.

10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who said, “Evil will not come near nor overtake us.”

11 In that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David that has fallen, and close up its breaches; I will raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old;

12 that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the nations that are called by my name, says the Lord, who does these things.

13 Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes the one who sows the seed; the mountains shall drip sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it. 

14 And I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine; they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.

15 And I will plant them in their own land, and they shall no more be uprooted from their land which I have given them, says the Lord your God.

2 Ainda que cavem até ao inferno, a minha mão os tirará dali, e, se subirem ao céu, dali os farei descer.

3 E, se esconderem no cume do Carmelo, buscá-los-ei, e dali os tirarei; e se se ocultarem aos meus olhos no fundo do mar, ali darei ordem à serpente e ela os morderá.

4 E, se forem para o cativeiro diante de seus inimigos, ali darei ordem à espada para que os mate; e eu porei os meus olhos sobre eles para mal, e não para bem.

5 Porque o Senhor, o Senhor dos Exércitos, é o que toca a terra, e ela se derrete, e todos os que habitam nela chorarão; e ela subirá toda como o grande rio, e se submergirá como o Egito.

12 Para que possuam o restante de Edom, e todas as nações que são chamadas pelo meu nome, diz o Senhor, que faz estas coisas.

13 Eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor, em que o que lavra alcançará ao que sega, e o que pisa as uvas ao que lança a semente; e os montes destilarão mosto, e todos os outeiros se derreterão.

1 The Lord God showed me this: behold, a basket of summer fruit.

2 And he said, “What do you see, Amos?” And I said, “A basket of summer fruit.” Then the Lord said to me, “The end has come upon my people Israel; from now on I will never again pass by them.”

3 But the songs of the temple will be heard on that day, says the Lord God: “The corpses will multiply; in every place they will be thrown out in silence.”

4 Hear this, you who long for the downfall of the needy and destroy the poor of the land,

5 saying, “When will the new moon be over, so that we may sell the frail? And the Sabbath, so that we may open the granaries of wheat, making the ephah small and the shekel large, and dealing deceitfully with false balances.”

6 To buy the poor with money, and the needy for a pair of shoes? And afterward we will sell the chaff of the wheat.

7 The Lord has sworn by the glory of Jacob: “I will never forget all their deeds!”

8 Will not the earth tremble because of this? Will not everyone who dwells in it mourn? It will certainly rise up like the great river, and be swept away, and submerged like the river of Egypt.

9 “In that day,” declares the Lord, “I will make the sun go down at noon, and the earth darken like a bright day.

10 I will turn your festivals into mourning and all your songs into lamentation. Sackcloth will be on every loins, and baldness on every head. I will make it like the mourning of an only son, and its end like a day of bitterness.”

11 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD, “when I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD.

12 They will wander from sea to sea and from north to east; they will roam about, seeking the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.

13 In that day the lovely virgins and the young men will faint from thirst.

14 Those who swear by the guilt of Samaria, saying, ‘As surely as your god lives, O Dan,’ and ‘As surely as the way of Beersheba lives,’ they will fall and not rise again.

1 O Senhor Jeová assim me fez ver: e eis aqui um cesto de frutos do verão.

2 E disse: Que vês, Amós? E eu disse: Um cesto de frutos do verão. Então o Senhor me disse: Chegou o fim sobre o meu povo Israel; daqui por diante nunca mais passarei por ele.

3 Mas os cânticos do templo serão ouvidos naquele dia, diz o Senhor Jeová: multiplicar-se-ão os cadáveres; em todos os lugares serão lançados fora em silêncio.

4 Ouvi isto, vós que anelais o abatimento do necessitado, e destruís os miseráveis da terra,

8 Por causa disto não se comoverá a terra? E não chorará todo aquele que habita nela? Certamente levantar-se-á toda como o grande rio, e será arrojada, e se submergirá como o rio do Egito.

9 E sucederá que, naquele dia, diz o Senhor, farei que o sol se ponha ao meio dia, e a terra se entenebreça em dia de luz.

10 E tornarei as vossas festas em luto, e todos os vossos cânticos em lamentações, e aparecerá saco sobre todos os lombos, e calva sobre toda a cabeça; e farei que isso seja como luto de filho único, e o seu fim como dia de amarguras.

2 When they had completely devoured the grass of the land, I said, “Lord God, forgive! How can Jacob now rise up? He is so small.”

3 Then the Lord relented concerning this. “It shall not happen,” said the Lord.

4 This is what the Lord God showed me: The Lord God was calling out, intending to contend by fire; and he devoured the great deep, intending to devour the land as well.

5 Then I said, “Lord God, stop! How can Jacob now rise up? He is so small.”

6 Then the Lord relented concerning this. “It shall not happen,” said the Lord God.

7 He also showed me this: The Lord was standing on a wall built with a plumb line, and he had a plumb line in his hand.

11 For thus says Amos: ‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be carried away captive out of its land.’” 12 Then Amaziah said to Amos, “Go away, you seer! Flee to the land of Judah, eat bread there, and prophesy there.

13 But you shall not prophesy anymore at Bethel, for it is the king’s sanctuary and the house of the kingdom.”

14 Amos answered and said to Amaziah, “I was not a prophet, nor the son of a prophet, but a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore trees.

15 But the Lord took me from tending the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’

16 Now therefore hear the word of the Lord: You say, ‘You shall not prophesy against Israel, nor speak against the house of Isaac.’”

17 Therefore thus says the Lord: Your wife shall become a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by lot, and you shall die in an unclean land, and Israel shall surely be taken captive out of its land.

2 Go to Calneh, and see; and from there go to great Hamath; then go down to Gath of the Philistines: are they better than these kingdoms? Or is their territory greater than yours?

3 You who prolong the evil day, and draw near to the place of violence;

4 You who lie on beds of ivory, and stretch yourselves out on your couches, and eat lambs from the flock, and calves from the midst of the herd;

5 You sing to the sound of the lute, and invent for yourselves musical instruments like David:

6 You drink wine from bowls, and anoint yourselves with the finest oils: but you do not grieve over the downfall of Joseph:

7 Behold, now you will go into captivity among the first to be taken captive, and the feasts of the lavish will cease.

8 The Lord God has sworn by his soul, the Lord God of hosts: I abhor the pride of Jacob, and I hate his palaces; and I will deliver up the city and all that is in it.

9 And it shall come to pass, that there shall be left ten men in a house, and they shall die.

1 Hear this word, which I raise up as a lamentation over you, O house of Israel.

2 The virgin of Israel has fallen, she shall never rise again; she is forsaken in her land, there is none to raise her up.

3 For thus says the Lord God: The city out of which a thousand go forth shall retain a hundred, and that out of which a hundred go forth shall retain ten for the house of Israel.

4 For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek me, and live.

5 But seek not Bethel, nor go to Gilgal, nor pass over to Beersheba; for Gilgal is surely taken captive, and Bethel shall be brought to nothing.

6 Seek the Lord, and live, lest he break out like a fire in the house of Joseph, and consume it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.

7 You who turn justice into wormwood and cast righteousness to the ground,

8 Seek him who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns the shadow of night into morning and darkens the day like night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the face of the earth—the Lord is his name.

9 He who brings sudden destruction upon the strong, so that desolation comes upon the fortress.

10 They hate the one who reproves them in the gate, and they abhor the one who speaks truthfully.

11 Therefore, because you trample on the poor and exact a tribute of grain from them, you will build houses of hewn stone, but you will not live in them; you will plant pleasant vineyards, but you will not drink their wine.

12 For I know how many are your transgressions, and how great are your sins: you afflict the righteous, you take bribes, and you reject the needy at the gate.

13 Therefore, the prudent man will keep silent at that time, for the time will be evil.

14 Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you say.

15 Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate; perhaps the Lord, the God of hosts, will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.

16 Therefore, thus says the Lord God of hosts, the Lord: In all the streets there will be weeping, and in all the neighborhoods they will say, “Alas! Alas!” And they will call the farmer to weeping, and those who know how to weep to lamentation.

17 And in all the vineyards there will be weeping; for I will pass through the midst of you, says the Lord.

18 Woe to those who long for the day of the Lord! For what do you long for the day of the Lord? It will be darkness, not light.

19 It will be like a man fleeing from a lion, only to meet a bear; or like a man going into a house, leaning his hand against the wall, only to be bitten by a snake.

20 Will not the day of the Lord be darkness, not light? Will it not be utter darkness without any brightness?

21 I hate, I despise your festivals, and I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies.

22 Even though you offer me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; nor will I look upon the peace offerings of your fattened animals.

23 Take away from me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your instruments.

24 But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!

25 Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness for forty years, people of Israel?

26 Instead, you carried the tent of your Moloch and the altar of your idols, the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.

27 Therefore I will send you into exile beyond Damascus, declares the Lord, whose name is the God Almighty.

22 E, ainda que me ofereçais holocaustos, e ofertas de manjares, não me agradarei delas: nem atentarei para as ofertas pacíficas de vossos animais gordos.

23 Afasta de mim o estrépito dos teus cânticos; porque não ouvirei as melodias dos teus instrumentos.

24 Corra porém o juízo como as águas, e a justiça como o ribeiro impetuoso.

25 Oferecestes-me vós sacrifícios e oblações no deserto por quarenta anos, ó casa de Israel?

1 Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to your masters, “Bring us something to drink!”

2 The Lord God has sworn by his holiness that the days are coming upon you when you will be taken away with hooks, and your descendants with fishing hooks.

3 You will go out through the breaches, one after another, and you will be driven to Hermon, declares the Lord.

4 Go to Bethel and transgress; to Gilgal and multiply transgressions; bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes every three days.

5 Offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leavened bread, and proclaim freewill offerings; publish them, for this is what you love, O children of Israel, declares the Lord God.

6 Therefore I also gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places; yet you did not return to me, says the Lord.

7 Moreover, I withheld rain from you, even three months before the harvest; I made it rain on one city, and on another city I did not make it rain; on one field it rained, but the other, on which it did not rain, withered.

8 And two or three cities wandered, going to another city to drink water, but they were not satisfied; yet you did not return to me, says the Lord.

9 I struck you with blight and mildew; the multitude of your gardens and your vineyards, your fig trees and your olive trees, the locust devoured; yet you did not return to me, says the Lord.

10 I sent plague among you, like Egypt: I killed your young men with the sword, and let your horses be taken captive, and I made the stench of your armies rise into your nostrils; yet you did not return to me, says the Lord.

11 I overthrew some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a brand snatched from the burning; yet you did not return to me, says the Lord.

12 Therefore, this is what I will do to you, Israel! And because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, Israel.

3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?

4 Does a lion roar in the forest when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out of his den if he has caught nothing?

5 Does a bird fall into a snare on the ground where there is no snare for it? Does a snare spring up on the ground if it has caught nothing?

6 Does a trumpet sound in the city, and the people not tremble? Does evil befall a city, and the Lord has not done it?

1 Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.

2 Therefore I will send fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth; and Moab shall die with a great noise, with a shout, with the sound of the trumpet.

3 And I will remove the judge from among them, and I will kill all their princes with him, says the Lord.

4 Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because they have rejected the law of the Lord, and have not kept his statutes, but have let him be led astray by their own lies, after which their fathers walked.

5 Therefore I will send fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

6 Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because they sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals;

7 They pant for the dust of the earth on the heads of the poor, and they turn aside the way of the meek; and a man and his father go in to the same young woman, to profane my holy name.

8 They lie down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge, and in the house of their gods they drink the wine of those who have been fined.

9 Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and whose strength was like that of the oaks; but I destroyed his fruit above, and his roots below.

10 I also brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years in the wilderness, that you might possess the land of the Amorite.

11 And I raised up prophets from among your sons, and Nazirites from among your young men. Is this not so, children of Israel? says the Lord.

12 But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink, and you commanded the prophets, saying, “Do not prophesy.”

13 Behold, I will press you into your place as one presses a cart full of sticks.

14 So the swift will not flee; the strong will not strengthen his strength, nor will the mighty deliver his life.

15 And he who carries the bow will not stand, nor will the swift of foot escape, nor will he who rides a horse deliver his soul.

16 And the most courageous among the mighty will flee naked on that day, says the Lord.

2 Por isso porei fogo a Moabe, e ele consumirá os palácios de Queriote; e Moabe morrerá com grande estrondo, com alarido, com som de buzina.

3 E tirarei o juiz do meio dele, e a todos os seus príncipes com ele matarei, diz o Senhor.

4 Assim diz o Senhor: Por três transgressões de Judá, e por quatro, não retirarei o castigo, porque rejeitaram a lei do Senhor, e não guardaram os seus estatutos, antes o deixaram enganar por suas próprias mentiras, após as quais andaram seus pais.

5 Por isso porei fogo a Judá, e ele consumirá os palácios de Jerusalém.

6 Assim diz o Senhor: Por três transgressões de Israel, e por quatro, não retirarei o castigo, porque vendem o justo por dinheiro, e o necessitado por um par de sapatos;

7 Suspirando pelo pó da terra sobre a cabeça dos pobres, eles pervertem o caminho dos mansos; e um homem e seu pai entram à mesma moça, para profanarem o meu santo nome.

8 E se deitam junto a qualquer altar sobre roupas empenhadas, e na casa de seus deuses bebem o vinho dos que tinham multado.

9 Não obstante eu ter destruído o amorreu diante deles, a altura do qual era como a altura dos cedros, e cuja força era como a dos carvalhos; mas destruí o seu fruto por cima, e as suas raízes por baixo.

10 Também vos fiz subir da terra do Egito, e quarenta anos vos guiei no deserto, para que possuísseis a terra do amorreu.

11 E dentre vossos filhos levantei profetas, e dentre os vossos mancebos narizeus. Não é isto assim, filhos de Israel? Diz o Senhor.

12 Mas vós aos narizeus destes vinho a beber, e aos profetas ordenastes, dizendo: Não profetizeis.

13 Eis que eu vos apertarei no vosso lugar como se aperta um carro cheio de manolhos.

14 Assim que de nada valerá a fuga ao ágil; nem o forte corroborará a sua força, nem o valente livrará a sua vida.

15 E não ficará em pé o que leva o arco, nem o ligeiro de pés se livrará, nem tão pouco o que vai montado a cavalo livrará a sua alma.

16 E o mais animoso entre os valentes fugirá nu naquele dia, disse o Senhor.

1 The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

2 And he said: “The Lord will roar from Zion and utter his voice from Jerusalem; in the dwellings of the shepherds there will be weeping, and the top of Carmel will wither.”

3 Thus says the Lord: “For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because they threshed Gilead with threshing sledges of iron.

4 Therefore I will send fire upon the house of Hazael, and it shall consume the palaces of Ben-Hadad.” 5 I will break the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant of Bikeath-aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre out of Beth-eden; and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the Lord.

6 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment, because they carried away captive all the captives, to deliver them up to Edom.

7 Therefore I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza, and it shall consume the palaces thereof.

8 And I will cut off the inhabitant of Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre out of Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord God.

9 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment, because they delivered up all the captives to Edom, and remembered not the covenant of the brethren.

10 Therefore I will send fire on the wall of Tyre, and it will consume its palaces.

11 Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword, and banished all mercy; and his anger tears forever, and retains his indignation forever.

12 Therefore I will send fire on Teman, and it will consume the palaces of Bozrah.

13 Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead, to enlarge their territory.

14 Therefore I will send fire on the wall of Rabbah, and it will consume its palaces, with a shout on the day of battle, with a storm on the day of the tempest.

15 And its king will go into captivity, he and his princes together, says the Lord.

God's Judgments on Enemy Nations: Israel Will Be Restored

1 For behold, in those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,

2 I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my people, my inheritance, Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.

3 They cast lots for my people; they traded a boy for a prostitute and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.

4 And what have you to do with me, Tyre and Sidon and all the borders of Phoenicia? Is this the kind of payment you give me? If you pay me this way, I will quickly repay you.

5 Because you have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried away my precious and beautiful things into your temples;

6 And you have sold the children of Judah and the children of Jerusalem to the sons of the Greeks, to remove them far from their borders;

7 Behold, I will remove them from the place where you sold them, and I will cause your recompense to fall upon your own head.

8 And I will sell your sons and your daughters by the hand of the children of Judah, who shall sell them to the sons of Sheba, to a distant nation, for the Lord has spoken.

9 Proclaim this among the nations: Consecrate war; rouse the mighty men; let all the men of war draw near, let them come up.

10 Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, “I am strong.”

11 Assemble yourselves, and come, all you nations round about, and gather yourselves together (O Lord, bring down your mighty ones there!);

12 Let the nations be roused, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat; for there I will sit to judge all the nations round about.

13 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe; come, tread, for the winepress is full, the vats overflow; for their wickedness is great.

14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.

15 The sun and the moon shall be great, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.

16 Then the Lord shall roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and the earth shall tremble. But the Lord shall be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the children of Israel. 

17 And you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain; strangers shall no more pass through it.

18 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drip with sweet wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall be full of waters; and a fountain shall come forth out of the house of the Lord, and shall water the valley of Shittim.

19 Egypt shall become a desolation, and Edom shall become a desolate wilderness, because of the violence done to the children of Judah, in whose land they shed innocent blood.

20 But Judah shall be inhabited forever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.

21 And I will cleanse the blood of them whom I had not cleansed: for the Lord shall dwell in Zion.
