II Kings 19 Isaiah Comforts Hezekiah

 II Kings 19

Isaiah Comforts Hezekiah

Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I have heard your request concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria.

This is the word that the Lord spoke to him: The virgin daughter of Zion despises you and mocks you; the daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head behind you.

Whom have you defied and blasphemed? And against whom have you lifted up your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel?

By your messengers you have defied the Lord and said, ‘I will go up with my many chariots to the heights of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; I will cut down its tall cedars and its beautiful fir trees; I will enter its outermost dwellings, even to the forest of its fruitful fields.

I have dug and drunk strange waters, and with the soles of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of the fortified places.

Have you not heard that I have done this before, and that I have formed it in ancient times? But now I have brought it about that you should make the fortified cities into desolate heaps.

Therefore their inhabitants have shortened their hands, and are astonished and confounded; they are like the grass of the field, and the green herb, and the hay on the housetops, and the corn that is burned before it rises.

But I know your sitting down, and your going out, and your coming in, and your fury against me.

Because of your fury against me, and because your rebellion has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

And this shall be a sign unto thee; This year thou shalt eat that which groweth of itself, and the second year that which springeth of it; but in the third year sow, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.

For the remnant of the house of Judah that is escaped, and is left, shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

For out of Jerusalem shall come forth the remnant, and out of mount Zion the zeal of the LORD shall do this.

Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there; neither shall he come before it with a shield, nor cast up a siege against it.

By the way that he came, by that he shall return; but he shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.

For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for the sake of my servant David.
