 I Chronicles 27

The Number of the People and the Monthly Divisions

1 These are the sons of Israel according to their number, the heads of the fathers' houses, and the captains of thousands and hundreds, with their officers, who served the king in all the affairs of the divisions, coming and going from month to month, in all the months of the year: each division was twenty-four thousand.

2 Over the first division for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

3 He was of the sons of Perez, chief of all the captains of the armies for the first month.

4 And over the division for the second month was Dodai the Ahohite, and his division, and Mikloth was the captain: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

5 The third captain of the army for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief officer and chief: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

6 This Benaiah was a man among the thirty, and over the thirty; and over his course was Ammizabad his son.

7 The fourth in the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and after him was Zebadiah his son: also in his course were twenty-four thousand.

8 The fifth in the fifth month was Shamuth the Israelite, the prince; also in his course were twenty-four thousand.

9 The sixth in the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: also in his course were twenty-four thousand.

10 The seventh in the seventh month was Helesh the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: also in his course were twenty-four thousand.

11 The eighth in the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zarites: also in his course were twenty-four thousand. 12 The ninth for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

13 The tenth for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zarites; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

14 The eleventh for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

15 The twelfth for the twelfth month was Heldiah the Netophathite, of Othiniel; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

16 And over the tribes of Israel were these: over the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri; over the Simeonites was Shephatiah the son of Maacah;

17 Over the Levites was Hashabiah the son of Kemuel; over the Aaronites was Zadok; 

18 Over Judah, Elihu, one of David's brothers; over Issachar, Omri the son of Michael; 

19 Over Zebulun, Irmahiah the son of Obadiah; over Naphtali, Jerimoth the son of Azriel; 

20 Over the sons of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah; over the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah; 

21 Over the other half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah; over Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner; 

22 Over Dan, Azarel the son of Jeroham; these were the leaders of the tribes of Israel.

 23 But David did not take the number of those twenty years old and under, because the Lord had said that He would multiply Israel as the stars of the sky. 

24 Joab the son of Zeruiah had begun to number them, but he did not finish, because wrath had fallen on Israel because of this; therefore the number was not recorded according to the records of King David.

25 And over the king's treasuries was Azmaveth the son of Adiel; and over the treasuries of the land, of the cities, and of the villages, and of the towers, was Jonathan the son of Uzziah.

26 And over those who worked in the field, in the tillage of the land, was Ezri the son of Chelub.

27 And over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite; and over that which was in the treasuries of wine was Zabdi the Shiphmite.

28 And over the olive groves and the sycamore trees that were in the plains was Baal-hanan the Gederite; and over the treasuries of oil was Joash.

 29 And over the cattle that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite; and over the cattle of the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai; 

30 And over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; and over the donkeys was Jediiah the Meronothite;

 31 And over the sheep was Jaziz the Hagarite: all these were rulers of the possession that King David had. 

32 And Jonathan David's uncle was a counselor, a man of understanding, and a scribe; and Jeiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons. 

33 And Ahithophel was on the king's counselor; and Hushai the Archite, the king's friend. 

34 And after Archophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and Joab was captain of the king's army.
