II Chronicles 26 Uzziah Is Smitten with Leprosy

 II Chronicles 26

Uzziah Is Smitten with Leprosy

16 But when he had become strong, his heart was lifted up until it became corrupt, and he transgressed against the Lord his God, for he went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.

17 But Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of the Lord, mighty men of valor.

18 And they resisted King Uzziah, and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense before the Lord, but for the priests the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have transgressed; and it will not be to your honor from the Lord God."

19 Then Uzziah was angry; and he had the censer in his hand to burn incense. And when he was angry with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, beside the altar of incense.

20 Then Azariah the high priest looked at him, and so did all the priests, and behold, he was leprous on his forehead. So they threw him out in haste; and he himself hurried to get out, because the Lord had struck him.

21 So King Uzziah was a leper until the day of his death. Because he was a leper, he lived in a separate house, for he was excluded from the house of the Lord. And Jotham his son was over the king's household, judging the people of the land.

22 Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, were written by Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

23 So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial that belonged to the kings, for they said, "He is a leper." And Jotham his son reigned in his place.
