Moab Revolts Against Israel

1 After the death of Ahab, Moab rebelled against Israel.

2 Ahaziah fell through the lattice of an upper room that he had in Samaria and became sick. He sent messengers and said to them, "Go and inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this disease."

3 But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, "Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you should go to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?'

4 Therefore thus says the Lord: 'You shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.'" So Elijah departed.

5 And the messengers returned to him, and he said to them, "Why are you back?"

6 And they said to him, A man came out to meet us, and said to us, Go back to the king who sent you, and say to him, Thus says the Lord: Is it because there is no God in Israel, that you send to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.

7 And he said to them, What was the apparel of the man who came to meet you and spoke these words to you?

8 And they said to him, It was a man clothed with hair, and his loins were girded with a leather belt. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.
