I Kings 16 The Conspiracy of Zimri

 I Kings 16

The Conspiracy of Zimri

- In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha began to reign over Israel in Tirzah, and reigned two years.

- And his servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him, while he was in Tirzah drinking and getting drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household in Tirzah.

- So Zimri went in and struck him down and killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place.

- And it came to pass, when he was reigning and sitting on his throne, that he smote all the house of Baasha; he left him not a man, neither his kinsmen nor his friends.

So Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha, according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke concerning Baasha through Jehu the prophet,

for all the sins of Baasha and the sins of Elijah his son, by which they sinned and by which they made Israel sin, provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger with their vanities.

Now the rest of the acts of Elijah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned in Tirzah seven days; while the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

And the people who were encamped heard it said, Zimri has conspired, and has even struck down the king. So all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army in the camp, king over Israel that same day.

Then Omri and all Israel with him went up from Gibbethon and besieged Tirzah.

When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went to the palace of the king's house and burned the king's house with fire and died.

Because of his sins that he had committed, doing evil in the sight of the Lord by walking in the way of Jeroboam and his sin that he committed, making Israel sin.

Now the rest of the acts of Zimri and his conspiracy that he made, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
