Kings 22 The Reign of Jehoshaphat and His Death

Kings 22

The Reign of Jehoshaphat and His Death

Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilki.

He walked in all the ways of his father Asa and did not turn aside from them, doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

Nevertheless the high places were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

And Jehoshaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he fought, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

He also banished from the land the rest of the young men who were rebellious in the days of Asa his father.

At that time there was no king in Edom, but a viceroy.

And Jehoshaphat made ships from Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold; but they did not go, for the ships were broken at Ezion Geber.

Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "Let my servants go with your servants in the ships." But Jehoshaphat would not.

So Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father. And Joram his son reigned in his place.

And Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.

And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, for he walked in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

And he served Baal, and bowed down to him, and provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger, according to all that his father had done.
