I Chronicles 12 Those who came to David at Ziklag

 I Chronicles 12

Those who came to David at Ziklag

Now these are the ones who came to David at Ziklag while he was still in captivity because of Saul the son of Kish, and they were among the mighty men who had helped him in the war.

They were armed with bows, and could shoot stones with their right and left hands and shoot arrows with the bow. These were some of Saul's brothers, the Benjamites.

Ahiezer the chief, and Joash the son of Shemaah the Gibeathite, and Jeziel and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth, and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite,

And Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the Thirty, and captain of the Thirty, and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite,

Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Haruphite,

Elkanah, and Isshiah, and Azarel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites,

And Joela, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor,

And there went out of the Gathites to David to the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men of war for battle, armed with shields and spears: and their faces were like the faces of men of war. lions, and swift as deer upon the mountains:

Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,

Mishmana the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,

Athai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,

Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,

Jeremiah the tenth, Machbanai the eleventh.

These were the captains of the army of the sons of Gad: one of the least was over a hundred, and the greatest over a thousand.

These are they who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it overflowed all its banks, and put all the people of the valleys to flight, to the east and to the west.

Some of the sons of Benjamin and Judah also came to David in the stronghold.

Then David went out to meet them and spoke to them, saying, "If you come to me peacefully and to help me, my heart will go out to you. But if you hand me over to my enemies, and there is no treachery in my hands, may the God of our fathers see it and rebuke it."

Then the spirit came upon Amasai, chief of the thirty, and said, "We are yours, O David, and we are with you, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you! And peace to him who helps you, for your God helps you." So David received them and made them captains of the troops.

Some of Manasseh also went over to David when he came with the Philistines to battle against Saul, but they did not help them. For the lords of the Philistines took counsel and sent him away, saying, "He will go over to his master Saul at the cost of our heads."

When he returned to Ziklag, there came to him from Manasseh Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Josabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of thousands of the men of Manasseh.

These helped David against the band of men, for they were all mighty men of valor, and were captains in the army.

For at that time they came day by day to help David, until he had become a great army, like the army of God.
