I Chronicles 11
David is anointed king
Then all Israel gathered to David at Hebron, saying, "Behold, we are your bone and your flesh."
And in the past, when Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in. The Lord your God said to you, "You shall shepherd my people Israel, and you shall be ruler over my people Israel."
Then all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord through Samuel.
Then David and all Israel set out for Jerusalem, which is Jebus, because the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.
And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, "You shall not come in here." But David took the stronghold of Zion, which is the city of David.
For David said, "Whoever first defeats the Jebusites shall be chief and captain." So Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and he was made chief.
And David lived in the stronghold; therefore it was called the City of David.
And he built the city all around, from Millo to the circuit; and Joab renovated the rest of the city.
And David grew greater and greater, for the LORD of hosts was with him.
