The Book of the Prophet Zechariah 2
The Third Vision: Jerusalem is Measured
I lifted up my eyes again and looked, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand.
And I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.”
And behold, the angel who spoke with me went out, and another angel came to meet him,
and said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying, ‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of men and animals in it.’”
And I, says the Lord, will be a wall of fire around it, and I will be its glory in the midst of it.
“Alas, flee now from the land of the north,” says the Lord, “for I have scattered you like the four winds of heaven,” says the Lord.
“Alas, Zion! Deliver yourself, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.”
For thus says the Lord of hosts: After the glory he sent me to the nations that plundered you; for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye.
For behold, I will lift up my hand against them, and they shall become the prey of those who served them; then you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me.
Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I am coming, and I will dwell in the midst of you, says the Lord.
And in that day many nations shall join themselves to the Lord, and they shall be my people; and I will dwell in the midst of you, and you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you.
Then the Lord will possess Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.
Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for he has awakened in his holy habitation.
