The Book of the Prophet Zechariah 1 The First Vision: The Horses

The Book of the Prophet Zechariah 1

The First Vision: The Horses

7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month (which is the month of Shevat), in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, saying:

8 I looked in the night, and behold, a man sat on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the depths, and behind him were red, brown, and white horses.

9 And I said, “My lord, who are these?” And the angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you who these are.”

10 Then the man who stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, “These are the ones whom the Lord has sent to walk throughout the earth.”

11 And they answered the angel of the Lord who stood among the myrtle trees and said, “We have walked throughout the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and quiet.”

12 Then the angel of the Lord answered and said, “O Lord of hosts, how long will you not have compassion on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have been angry these seventy years?”

13 And the Lord answered the angel who spoke with me with good words, comforting words.

14 And the angel who spoke with me said to me, “Cry out, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am very jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion.

15 And I am very angry with the nations that are disregarded; because while I was a little displeased, they helped in evil.’”

16 Therefore, thus says the Lord: “I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy; my house shall be built in it, says the Lord of hosts, and the measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”

17 Cry out again, saying, “Thus says the Lord of hosts: My cities shall again increase and prosper; For the Lord will yet comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem.
