 The Book of the Prophet Micah 2

1 Woe to those who devise iniquity on their beds and plot evil! At dawn they carry it out, because it is in their power!

2 They covet fields and seize them, and houses and take them; they oppress a man and his house, a person and his inheritance.

3 Therefore, this is what the Lord says: “See, I am planning disaster against this generation, from which you cannot escape. You will no longer walk proudly, because it will be a time of evil.

4 In that day a proverb will be raised against you, and a lament will be heard, saying: ‘We are utterly desolate! He exchanges the portion of my people! How he plunders me! He takes away our fields and divides them up!’”

5 Therefore, you will not have anyone in the assembly of the Lord to cast lots.

6 Do not prophesy; Those who prophesy, let them not prophesy in this way, lest shame depart.

7 O you who are called to the house of Jacob, has the Spirit of the Lord been restrained? Are these his works? And do not my words do good to him who walks uprightly?

8 But recently my people have risen up as an enemy; you have stripped the cloak from the garment of those who passed by safely, like men returning from war.

9 You have cast out the women of my people from the house of their delights; you have taken away my praise forever from their children.

10 Arise and walk, for this will not be your resting place, because of corruption that destroys, yes, that destroys greatly.

11 If there is anyone who follows his spirit of falsehood, lying and saying, “I will prophesy to you concerning wine and strong drink,” he shall be the prophet of this people.

12 Surely I will gather all of you, Jacob; surely I will assemble the remnant of Israel; I will bring them all together like sheep of Bozrah; like a flock in the midst of their fold, they will make a noise because of the multitude of men.

13 The plowman will go up before them; they will break through, and enter by the gate, and go out by it; with the king before them, and the Lord at their head.
