The Book of the Prophet Micah 6 The Lord's Conflict with His People. The Wickedness of Israel: God Will Show No Compassion

The Book of the Prophet Micah 6

The Lord's Conflict with His People. The Wickedness of Israel: God Will Show No Compassion

Hear now what the Lord says: “Arise, contend with the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice.”

Hear, you mountains, the Lord’s controversy, and you strong foundations of the earth; for the Lord has a controversy with his people, and he will contend with Israel.

“My people, what have I done to you? How have I wearied you? Testify against me.

I brought you up from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery; I set before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

My people, remember the inquity of Balak king of Moab, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of the Lord.”

With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the Most High God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings? With calves a year old?

Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams? With ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression? The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

The voice of the Lord cries to the city, and the wise shall see your name: Hear the rod and who ordained it.

Are there still treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked? And a small ephah that is detestable?

Shall I be pure with false scales? And with a bag of deceitful weights?

For its rich men are full of violence, and its inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

So I also will weaken you, striking you and laying you waste because of your sins.

You will eat, but you will not be satisfied; and your humiliation will be in your midst; you will remove, but you will not deliver; and what you deliver, I will deliver to the sword.

You will sow, but you will not reap; you will tread the olives, but you will not anoint yourselves with oil; and the new wine, but you will not drink the wine.

For the statutes of Omri are observed, and all the work of the house of Ahab, and you walk in their counsels; so that I may make you a desolation, and its inhabitants a hissing; thus you will bring upon yourselves the reproach of my people.
