Job Upholds His Integrity and Sincerity

1 Then Job continued his parable, and said:

2 As God lives, who has turned my cause aside, and the Almighty, who has embittered my soul.

3 As long as breath is in me, and the breath of God is in my nostrils,

4 My lips shall not speak iniquity, nor my tongue utter deceit.

5 Far be it from me that I should justify you; until I die, I will not cast away my integrity from me.

6 I will hold fast to my righteousness, and will not let it go; my heart shall not linger as long as I live.

7 Let my enemy be as the wicked, and he who rises up against me as the perverse.

8 For what hope will the hypocrite have when he has been greedy, when God takes away his life?

 9 Will God hear his cry when trouble comes upon him?

10 Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?

11 I will teach you the hand of God, and I will not hide from you the things of the Almighty.

12 Behold, you have all seen this; why then do you boast in your vanity?

13 This is what the portion of the wicked man will be from God, and the inheritance that oppressors will receive from the Almighty:

14 If his children are multiplied, it will be for the sword, and his offspring will not be satisfied with bread.

15 Those who remain of him will be buried in death, and his widows will not weep.

16 If he heaps up silver like dust, and makes garments like clay; 

17 He will equip them, but the righteous will clothe them, and the innocent will divide the silver.

18 He builds his house like a moth, and like a keeper who makes a booth.

19 The rich man lies down, and will not be gathered; his eyes open, and he will not be.

20 Terrors come upon him like waters; a storm will sweep him away in the night.

21 The east wind will carry him away, and he will go away; it will sweep him away from his place.

22 And God will cast it upon him, and will not spare him; it will flee from his hand.

23 Every man will strike him with the palms of his hands, and will whistle at him from his place.
