Job 17

 Job 17

My spirit is consumed, my days are extinct, and the grave is before me.

Do not mockers mock me? Do not my eyes see their bitterness?

Make a promise, and give me a surety with you; who will lend me a hand?

For you have covered their hearts with understanding, therefore you will not exalt them.

He who speaks flatteringly to his friends, the eyes of his children will also fail.

But he made me a byword among the people, so that I became an abomination to them.

Therefore my eyes are darkened with grief, and all my members are like a shadow;

The upright will be astonished at this, and the innocent will rise up against the hypocrite.

The righteous will hold fast his way, and the pure in hand will increase in strength.

But turn back, all of you, and come here; for I find no wise man among you.

My days are past, and my purposes are ruined, the thoughts of my heart.

They have changed the night into day; the light is nearly ended because of the darkness.

If I consider the grave as my home, if I spread my bed in the darkness;

If corruption cries, “You are my father,” and to the worm, “You are my mother and my sister,”

Where then is my hope now? Yes, my hope who can see it?

It will go down to the bars of Sheol, when we will rest together in the dust.
