Job 05 Eliphaz urges Job to seek God

 Job 05

Eliphaz urges Job to seek God

Call now; is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the saints will you turn?

For anger destroys the foolish, and jealousy slays the simple.

I have seen the foolish take root; but I have cursed his dwelling place.

His children are far from salvation; they are dashed to pieces at the gates, and there is none to deliver them.

The hungry devour his harvest; he takes it even from among thorns; and the robber takes away his goods.

For affliction does not come from the dust, nor does trouble spring from the ground.

But man is born to trouble; as sparks fly from a coal.

But as for me, I would seek God, and to him I would direct my speech.

He does great things that cannot be fathomed, and marvelous works that cannot be counted.

He sends rain on the earth and sends waters on the fields,

To set those who are lowly on high, and those who mourn are exalted in salvation.

He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot carry out anything.

He catches the wise in their own craftiness, and the counsel of the wicked is brought to naught.

They find darkness by day, and at noon they grope as in the night.

But he delivers the needy from the sword of their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

So there is hope for the poor, and iniquity stops its own mouth.

Behold, blessed is the man whom God corrects; Do not despise the punishment of the Almighty.

For he wounds and binds up; he wounds and his hands heal.

He will deliver you in six troubles, and in seven no evil will touch you.

In famine he will deliver you from death, and in war from the violence of the sword.

You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue; you will not be afraid of desolation when it comes.

You will laugh at desolation and famine, and you will not be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field will be with you.

And you will know that your tent is in peace; you will visit your dwelling place, and you will not lack anything.

And you will know that your seed will multiply, and your offspring will be like the grass of the earth.

In your old age you will come to your grave, as a sheaf of wheat is gathered in its season.

Behold, we have already inquired about this, and it is so; hear and consider it for your own good.
