Psalms 56
David prays to God to save him from his enemies, and he trusts that he will grant it
Have mercy on me, O God, for man seeks to swallow me up; he oppresses me, fighting all day long.
My enemies seek to swallow me up all day long; for there are many who fight against me, O Most High.
When I am afraid, I will trust in you.
In God I will praise his word; in God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?
All day long they twist my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.
They gather together, they hide themselves, they watch my steps, as if they were waiting for my death.
Can they escape in the midst of their iniquity? O God, overthrow the nations in your anger!
You have kept count of my wanderings; put my tears in your bottle; are they not in your book?
When I cry to you, then my enemies will turn back; this I know, for God is with me.
In God I will praise his word; in the Lord I will praise his word.
In God I have put my trust; I will not fear what man can do to me.
Your vows are upon me, O God; I will give thanks to you;
For you have delivered my soul from death, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living.
