Psalms 107
God's goodness in protecting travelers, prisoners, the sick, seafarers, and all men in general
Praise the Lord, for he is good, for his lovingkindness endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he redeemed from the hand of the enemy,
And whom he gathered from the lands of the east and the west, from the north and the south.
They wandered in the wilderness, in desolate ways; they found no city to inhabit.
Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them.
And they cried out to the Lord in their distress, and he saved them from their distress.
And he led them in a straight way, to go to the city of their own accord.
Let them praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.
For he has satisfied the hungry soul;
Like one who sits in darkness and the shadow of death, bound in affliction and iron.
Therefore they rebelled against the words of God, and despised the counsel of the Most High.
Behold, he has broken their hearts with trouble; they have stumbled, and there was none to help them.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their distress, and he saved them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death; he broke their bonds in pieces.
Let them praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.
For he has broken down the gates of bronze, and cut in pieces the bars of iron.
Fools are afflicted because of their transgression and because of their iniquities.
Their soul has hated all food, and they have come to the gates of death.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their distress, and he saved them out of their distress.
He sent his word, and healed them; he delivered them from their destruction.
Let them praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.
And they offered sacrifices of thanksgiving, and told of his works with joy.
Those who go down to the sea in ships, trading in the great waters,
They see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
For he commands, and the stormy wind arises, and lifts up its waves.
They mount up to the heavens, they go down to the depths, and their soul melts away in anguish.
They reel and stagger like drunkards, and all their wisdom is gone.
Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble; and he delivers them from their troubles.
He makes the storm calm, and the waves are still.
Then they rejoice when it is calm; and he brings them to their desired haven.
Let them praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.
Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and glorify him in the assembly of the elders.
He turns rivers into a wilderness, and springs into thirsty ground;
A fruitful land into salt, because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
He turns the desert into a pool, and the parched land into springs of water.
And he makes the hungry dwell there, and they build cities for themselves to live in;
They sow the fields and plant vineyards that yield abundant fruit.
And he blesses them, so that they multiply greatly; and their livestock does not decrease.
But again they decrease and are brought low by oppression, affliction and sorrow.
He pours contempt on princes, and makes them wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
But he raises the needy on high from oppression, and multiplies families like flocks.
The upright see this and are glad, but all the wicked shut their mouths.
Let the wise observe these things, and consider the lovingkindness of the Lord.
