II Chronicles 35
Josiah provokes the king of Egypt and is killed
After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt went up to fight against Carchemish by the Euphrates. And Josiah went out to meet him.
Then he sent messengers, saying, "What have I to do with you, king of Judah? As for you, I am not coming against you today, but against the house that is fighting against me. And God has said to me, 'Beware of opposing God, who is with me, or I will destroy you.'"
But Josiah did not turn his face away from him, but disguised himself to fight with him. He did not listen to the words of Necho that came from the mouth of God, but came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.
And the archers shot at King Josiah: and the king said to his servants, Take me hence; for I am sorely wounded.
And his servants took him out of the chariot, and carried him in the second chariot that he had, and brought him to Jerusalem; and he died, and they buried him in the tombs of his fathers: and all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.
And Jeremiah made a lamentation for Josiah: and all the male and female singers spake of Josiah in their lamentation unto this day: for they made them a statute in Israel; and, behold, they are written in the lamentation.
And the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his good deeds, as it is written in the law of the LORD:
And his acts, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
