Esther 06 The King Reads the Chronicles and Decides to Honor Mordecai

 Esther 06

The King Reads the Chronicles and Decides to Honor Mordecai

That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles to be brought and read before the king.

And it was found written that Mordecai had reported about Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king's eunuchs who kept the door, who sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus.

Then the king said, "What honor and reward has been given to Mordecai for this?" And the king's young men, his servants, said, "Nothing has been done to him."

Then the king said, "Who is in the court?" Now Haman had gone into the king's outer court to tell the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

And the king's young men said to him, "Behold, Haman is in the court." And the king ordered him to come in.

When Haman came in, the king said to him, “What shall be done for the man whom the king delights in honoring?” Then Haman thought in his heart, “Whom will the king delight in honoring him more than me?”

So Haman said to the king, “The man whom the king delights in honoring,

let the royal robes that the king wears be brought, and let the horse on which the king rides be mounted, and let the royal crown be placed on his head.

Let the robe and the horse be given to one of the king’s princes, one of the greatest lords, and let the man whom the king delights in honor be clothed with them. Then let him ride through the streets of the city, and let it be proclaimed before him, ‘This is what shall be done for the man whom the king delights in honoring.’

Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry, take the robe and the horse, as you have said, and do so for Mordecai the Jew who sits at the king’s gate. and do not let anything fall from your mouth.

So Haman took the robe and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the streets of the city, and proclaimed before him, "This shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!"

After this Mordecai returned to the king's gate, but Haman hurried to his house in disgust, with his head covered.

Then Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends all that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, "If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of the Jewish race, he will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him."

While they were still talking with him, the king's eunuchs arrived and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
