II Chronicles 34 Josiah Abolishes Idolatry

 II Chronicles 34

Josiah Abolishes Idolatry

1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father, not turning aside to the right hand or to the left.

3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherahs, and the carved images and the molten images.

4 And they tore down the altars of Baalim before him; and he cut down the images of the sun that were above them; and he broke the Asherahs, and the carved images and the molten images, and ground them into powder, and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

5 And he burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and he purified Judah and Jerusalem.

6 And he did the same in the cities of Manasseh, and in the cities of Ephraim, and in the cities of Simeon, and in the waste places round about unto Naphtali.

7 And he broke down the altars, and the Asherahs, and the carved images, and reduced them to powder, and cut down all the images of the sun throughout all the land of Israel; and he returned to Jerusalem.
