II Chronicles 34
Huldah the Prophetess Predicts the Doom of Jerusalem
Then Hilkiah and the king's messengers went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Harsha, keeper of the wardrobe (she lived in Jerusalem in the second half); and they spoke to her in this way.
And she said to them, "Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Tell the man who sent you to me:
Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the curses that are written in the book that was read before the king of Judah.
Because they have forsaken Me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the work of their hands; therefore My wrath has been poured out on this place, and it will not be quenched.
But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, thus shall you say to him: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the words which you have heard:
Because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God, when you heard his words against this place and against its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before me, and tore your clothes, and wept before me, therefore I have heard you, says the Lord.
Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all this evil that I will bring upon this place and upon its inhabitants.' So they returned with this answer to the king.
Then the king summoned and assembled all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
Then the king went up to the house of the Lord, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites and all the people from the greatest to the least, and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the Lord.
Then the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord and to keep his commandments, his testimonies, and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that are written in this book.
And he made all who were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin stand up; and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
And Josiah removed all the abominations out of all the lands that belonged to the children of Israel, and he did all that were in the lands that were written in the book. and he compelled all who were present in Israel to serve the Lord their God with such worship: All his days they did not turn aside from following the Lord, the God of their fathers.
