Psalms 77
The inner state of the psalmist: he encourages his soul by considering God's great works and mercy
I cried to the Lord with my voice; I raised my voice to God, and he inclined his ear to me.
In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; my hand was stretched out in the night, and would not cease; my soul refused to be comforted.
I remembered God, and was troubled; I complained, and my spirit fainted.
I kept my eyes awake; I was so troubled that I could not speak.
I considered the days of old, the years of the old days.
I called to mind my song in the night; I pondered in my heart, and my spirit sought:
Will the Lord cast off forever, and be gracious no more?
Has his lovingkindness ceased forever? Has the promise that came from generation to generation come to an end?
Has God forgotten to show mercy? Has he closed his compassion in his anger?
Then I said, “This is my infirmity; then I remembered the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
I will remember the works of the Lord; surely I will remember your wonders of old.
I will meditate on all your works, and talk about your acts.
Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary. Who is so great as our God?
You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your strength among the peoples.
With your arm you have redeemed your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph.
The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you, and were afraid; the depths also were shaken.
The clouds poured out like water; the heavens resounded; your arrows flew to and fro.
The voice of your thunder echoed in the air; the lightnings lit up the world; the earth shook and trembled.
Your way was in the sea, and your paths in the great waters; and your footsteps were not known.
You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
