Psalms 72 The excellence, justice, and glory of Solomon's kingdom prefigure those of the Messiah

 Psalms 72

The excellence, justice, and glory of Solomon's kingdom prefigure those of the Messiah

Give your judgments to the king, O God, and your righteousness to the king's son.

He will judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

The mountains will bring peace to the people, and the hills with justice.

He will judge the afflicted among the people, he will save the children of the needy, and he will break in pieces the oppressor.

They will fear you as long as the sun and the moon endure, from generation to generation.

He will come down like rain on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth.

In his days the righteous will flourish, and abundance of peace as long as the moon endures.

He will rule from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow down before him, and his enemies will lick the dust.

The kings of Tarshish and the isles will bring gifts; the kings of Sheba and Seba will offer gifts.

All kings will bow down before him; all nations will serve him.

For he will deliver the needy when he cries, the afflicted and those who have no one to help them.

He will have compassion on the poor and the afflicted, and will save the lives of the needy.

He will redeem their lives from deceit and violence, and precious will be their blood in his sight.

And he will live, and they will give him some of the gold of Seba; prayer will be made for him continually, and he will be blessed every day.

There will be an handful of grain in the land on the tops of the mountains; His fruit will be shaken like Lebanon, and those of the city will flourish like the grass of the earth.

His name will endure forever; his name will go forth from father to son as long as the sun endures; and men will be blessed in him; all nations will call him blessed.

Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does wonderful things.

And blessed be his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen.

Here ends the prayers of David son of Jesse.
