Psalms 42 The soul longs to serve God in his temple

 Psalms 42

The soul longs to serve God in his temple

1 As the deer longs for the water brooks, so my soul longs for you, O God.

2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

3 My tears are my food day and night, while they say to me continually, “Where is your God?”

4 When I remember this, I pour out my soul within me: for I had gone with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with the throng that celebrated.

5 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I will yet praise him in the salvation of his presence.

6 My God, my soul is cast down within me; Therefore I remember you from the land of the Jordan, and from the Hermonites, from the Little Mountain.

7 Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls; all your waves and billows have passed over me.

8 Yet the Lord will command his mercy by day, and by night his song will be with me, a prayer to the God of my life.

9 I will say to God, my Rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go about in disgust because of the oppression of the enemy?"

10 How my enemies taunt me with a deadly wound in my bones, while they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"

11 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Wait for God, for I will yet praise him. He is the salvation of my countenance, and my God.
