The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 9
The Coming and Power of the Messiah
1 But the land that was in anguish will not be darkened. He brought shame on the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali in the past, but in the latter days he has exalted it by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.
2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light, and on those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, light has dawned.
3 You have multiplied the people, you have increased their joy; they will rejoice before you, as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the spoil.
4 For you have broken the yoke that weighed him down, the rod that crushed his shoulders, and the scepter of his oppressor, as in the day of the Midianites.
5 For all the armor of those who fought with noise, and the garments that were rolled in blood, will be burned up and will become fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulders. And his name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to order it and to establish it with justice and with righteousness from that time forward even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
