The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 18
The Destruction of the Assyrians Is Announced to Ethiopia
1 Woe to the land that overshadows with its wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia!
2 That sends ambassadors by sea in reed boats upon the waters, saying, "Go, you swift messengers, to a nation high and polished, to a people terrible from their beginning, to a nation of measure and shame, whose land the rivers divide."
3 All you inhabitants of the world, and you inhabitants of the land, when a standard is raised on the mountains, you will see it; when the trumpet is blown, you will hear it.
4 For thus said the Lord to me: I will be quiet, watching from my dwelling, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.
5 For before the harvest, when the shoot is full and the sour grapes are ripe, he will prune the branches and take away the boughs and cut them off.
6 They will be left for the birds of the mountains and the wild animals; the birds of prey will summer on them, and all the wild animals will winter on them.
7 At that time he will bring to the Lord of hosts a tall and polished people, a terrible people from their beginnings, a nation of measures and oppression, whose land the rivers divide, to the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, to Mount Zion.
