The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 19 Prophecy Against Egypt

The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 19

Prophecy Against Egypt

The Burden of Egypt. Behold, the Lord is riding on a swift cloud, and will come to Egypt; and the idols of Egypt will be shaken before their face, and the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them.

For I will cause Egyptians to rise up against Egyptians, and they will fight each against his brother, and each against his neighbor, city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.

And the spirit of the Egyptians will fail within them; I will destroy their counsel; and they will consult their idols, their enchanters, their diviners, and their magicians.

And I will deliver the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel master, and a fierce king will rule over them, declares the Lord, the Lord of hosts.

And the waters will fail from the sea, and the river will dry up and dry up.

The rivers will also rot and dry up, and the canals of Egypt will dry up; the reeds and rushes will wither.

The grass by the river, along the banks of the rivers, and all that was sown by the river, will wither and be uprooted and will not survive.

The fishermen will groan, and all who cast hooks into the river will sigh, and those who spread nets on the waters will be weary.

Those who work in fine linen and weave white cloth will be ashamed.

Their foundations will be torn down, and all who work for hire will be saddened.

The princes of Zoan are truly foolish; the counsel of Pharaoh's wise counselors has become foolish. How then will you say to Pharaoh, 'I am the son of wise men, the son of ancient kings'?

Where are your wise men now? Let them tell you now, or let them inform you, what the Lord Almighty has purposed against Egypt.

The princes of Zoan have become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they will cause Egypt to err, the cornerstone of its tribes.

The Lord has poured out a perverse spirit among them; and they have caused Egypt to err in all its works, like a drunkard wallowing in his vomit.

And no work that head or tail, branch or rush can do will profit Egypt.

At that time the Egyptians will be like women, trembling and afraid because of the hand of the Lord Almighty, because it will move against them.

And the land of Judah will be a horror to Egypt; everyone to whom it is told will be dismayed because of the purpose of the Lord Almighty, what he has purposed against them.

At that time there will be five cities in the land of Egypt that will speak the language of Canaan and will swear an oath to the Lord of Hosts; and one will be called, "City of Destruction."

At that time the Lord will have an altar in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a monument will be set up to the Lord at its border.

It will be a sign and a testimony to the Lord of Hosts in the land of Egypt, for they will cry out to the Lord because of their oppressors, and he will send them a Redeemer and a Protector, who will deliver them.

The Lord will make himself known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day; they will worship him with sacrifices and offerings, and they will make vows to the Lord and fulfill them.

The Lord will strike the Egyptians and heal them. They will return to the Lord and be moved by their prayers and will heal them.

In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrians will come to Egypt, and the Egyptians will go to Assyria, and the Egyptians will worship the Lord with the Assyrians.

In that day Israel will be the third with the Egyptians and the Assyrians, a blessing in the midst of the earth.

For the Lord of hosts will bless them, saying: Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.
