Psalms 137 Longing for the Homeland

 Psalms 137

Longing for the Homeland

1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat down yea, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

2 We hung our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.

3 For they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that destroyed us required us to make them mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

4 But how shall we sing the song of the LORD in a strange land?

5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.

6 Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember thee, if I do not set Jerusalem above my chief joy.

7 Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem, for they said, Destroy it, destroy it, even to its foundations.

8 Ah! Daughter of Babylon, who will be laid waste, happy is the one who repays you as you have done to us.

9 Happy is the one who takes your children and dashes them against the rocks.
