Proverbs of Solomon 17
Better is a dry morsel, and quietness with it, than a house full of victims and strife.
A wise servant will rule over a son who acts unworthily; and he will divide the inheritance between brothers.
The crucible is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but the Lord tests the hearts.
A wicked man pays attention to wicked lips; a liar gives ear to a malicious tongue.
He who mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who rejoices in calamity will not go unpunished.
Children's children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children are their fathers.
Excellent speech is not becoming to a fool; how much less to a prince are lying lips!
A gift is precious in the eyes of those who receive it; wherever it is turned, it profits.
He who covers a transgression seeks friendship, but he who repeats a dispute separates close friends.
A rebuke goes deeper into a prudent person than a hundred blows into a fool.
A rebellious person seeks only evil, but a cruel messenger will be sent against him.
The web that robbed his children will meet a man, but not a fool in his folly.
As for him who returns evil for good, evil will not depart from his house.
The beginning of strife is like letting out water; therefore, stop strife before you are involved.
He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both an abomination to the Lord.
What good is a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding?
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
A man void of understanding lends his hand and becomes surety for his neighbor.
He who loves strife loves transgression; he who raises his gate seeks destruction.
A perverse heart will never find good, and a double-tongued man will fall into mischief.
He who begets a fool does so to his own sorrow, and the father of a fool will not rejoice.
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
A wicked man takes a gift from the seal to pervert the paths of justice.
Wisdom is seen in the face of a discerning man, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.
A foolish son is a grief to his father and bitterness to her who bore him.
It is not good to punish the righteous, nor for princes to strike down those who act justly.
He who has knowledge withholds his words, and a man of understanding is of a precious spirit.
Even a fool who keeps silent will be considered wise, and he who holds his lips in silence will be considered understanding.
