Proverbs of Solomon 18
1 He who separates himself seeks his own desire; he rebels against sound wisdom.
2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in revealing his heart.
3 When the wicked comes, contempt also comes, and with shame comes shame.
4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom is a flowing stream.
5 It is not good to show respect to the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6 A fool's lips enter into strife, and his mouth calls for stripes.
7 A fool's mouth is his own destruction, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
8 The words of a gossiper are like sweet morsels; they go down into the inmost parts of the belly.
9 He who is slothful in his work is brother to a spendthrift.
10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous will run to it and be safe.
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, like a high wall in his imagination.
12 Before being broken, the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor comes humility.
13 To answer before listening is foolishness and shame.
14 The spirit of a man will relieve his infirmity, but who can lift up a crushed spirit?
15 The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
16 A man's gift enlarges his way and leads him before great men.
17 He who first begins his cause seems righteous, but his companion comes and examines him.
18 The lot makes disputes cease and separates the mighty.
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city; and contentions are like the bars of a palace.
20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; he shall be satisfied with the newness of his lips.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and he who loves it will eat its fruit.
22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.
23 The poor speak with entreaties, but the rich answer harshly.
24 A man who has many companions may boast, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
