Proverbs of Solomon 9
The Banquet of Wisdom
Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out her seven pillars.
She has sacrificed her sacrifices, mixed her wine, and prepared her table.
She has given orders to her maidens; she has invited from the heights of the city, saying,
"Let the simple turn in here." To those who lack understanding she says, "
Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine I have mixed."
Forsake the foolish, and live; and walk in the way of understanding.
He who rebukes a scorner receives shame; and he who rebukes the wicked receives his stain.
Do not rebuke a scorner, lest he hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in understanding.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is prudence.
For by me your days will be multiplied, and the years of your life will be increased.
If you are wise, you will be wise for yourself; and if you are a scoffer, you alone will bear it.
A foolish woman is noisy; she is simple and knows nothing.
She sits at the door of her house, or on a seat on the high places of the city.
She calls out to those who pass by and go straight on their way.
Let the simple turn here. And to those who lack understanding she says:
Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
But she does not know that the dead are there; that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.
