Deuteronomy 29 God makes a new covenant with the people

Deuteronomy 29

God makes a new covenant with the people

These are the words of the covenant which the LORD commanded Moses in the land of Moab to make with the children of Israel, besides the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that Jehovah hath done in the land of Egypt before your eyes Pharaoh, and all his servants, and all his land:

The great tests that your eyes have seen, those signs and great wonders:

But the Lord has not given you a heart to understand, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear, to this day.

And forty years I caused you to wander in the wilderness: your clothes have not grown old on you, neither has your shoe become old on your foot.

You have not eaten bread, and you have not drunk wine and strong drink: that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.

And when ye came to this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we smote them.

And we took their land, and gave it for a heritage to the Reubenites and the Gadites, and to the half tribe of the Manasseh.

Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.

You are all standing before the LORD your God this day: the heads of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, every man of Israel;

Your children, your wives, and the stranger in the midst of your camp; from the splitter of your wood to the drawer of your water;

That thou mayest enter into the covenant of the LORD thy God, and into his oath which the LORD thy God casts with thee this day;

That I may establish thee today for his people, and he be unto thee for God, as he hath spoken unto thee, and as he sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob.

And not only with you do I make this covenant and this oath.

But with him that standeth with us this day before the LORD our God, and with him that is not with us this day.

For you know how we dwell in the land of Egypt, and how we passed through the nations through which you passed.

And you saw their abominations and their idols, the stick and the stone, the silver and the gold that was among them.

That there may be no man, nor woman, neither family, nor tribe among you, whose heart turneth away from the LORD our God this day, and will serve the gods of these nations; that there may be no root among you that will give gall and wormwood;

And when the words of this curse are heard, he will bless himself in his heart, saying, I will have peace, though I walk according to the good mind of my heart, to add drunkenness to thirst;

The Lord will not forgive him; but then shall the anger of the LORD smoke and his zeal upon that man, and every curse written in this book shall lie upon him; and the Lord will erase his name from under heaven.

And the LORD shall separate him from evil; of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in the book of this law.

Then shall come the generation to come, your sons who shall rise after you, and the stranger that shall come from remote lands, seeing the plagues of this land, and their diseases, wherewith the LORD has afflicted her;

And all their land burned with sulfur and salt, so that it shall not be sown, and it shall not produce, nor shall any grass grow therein, as was the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, of Adama, and of Zeboim, which the LORD destroyed in the land. his wrath and his fury.

And all nations shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus with this land? What was the cause of the fury of this great wrath?

Then shall it be said, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord the God of their fathers, which he had made with them, when He brought them out of Egypt.

And they went and served other gods, and bowed themselves before them; gods who knew them, and none of whom he had given them.

Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book.

And Jehovah brought them out of their land with wrath and wrath and with great wrath, and cast them into another land, as it is seen this day.

Things are covered up for the Lord our God; But they are revealed to us and to our children for ever, to fulfill all the words of this law.
