Deuteronomy 28
Punishments for disobedience
But if you will not hearken to the voice of the Lord your God, that you will not be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes, which I command you this day, then all these curses will come upon you, and they will reach you.
Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the field.
Cursed is your basket and your massager;
Cursed shall be the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, and the breeding of thy cows, and the flocks of thy sheep.
Cursed shall you be in coming in, and cursed in coming out,
The LORD will send the curse, the turmoil, and the perdition upon you, in whatever you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed, and until you suddenly perish, because of the wickedness of your works which you have forsaken me.
Yahweh will cause you to take pestilence, until he has consumed you from the land to which you now possess.
Yahweh will strike you with physics and fever and heat and heat and dryness and the destruction of sowing and rust; They will pursue you until you perish.
And the heavens that are above the head shall be of brass; and the land under you shall be iron.
The LORD will give you dust and dust from the rain of your land. it will come down from you from heaven until you perish.
The Lord will cause you to fall before your enemies; Thou shalt go out one way against them, and flee before them seven ways, and shalt be scattered throughout all the kingdoms of the earth.
And your dead body shall be for food to all the birds of the air, and to the beasts of the earth. and no one shall frighten them away.
The LORD will smite you with the sores of Egypt, and with hemorrhoids, and with scab, and with itch, that you cannot be healed.
The LORD shall smite thee with foolishness, and with blindness, and with astonishment of the heart:
And thou shalt grope at noon, as a blind grope in darkness, and prosper not in thy ways; but you will only be oppressed and robbed every day, and there will be no one to save you.
Thou shalt marry a woman, and another man shall sleep with her; You shall build a house, but you shall not live in it. You shall plant a vineyard, but you shall not lose its fruit.
Thine ox shall be put to death in thy sight, but thou shalt not eat it: thy ass shall be stolen before thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thy enemies, and none shall save thee.
Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall see them, and shall fail after them all the day long. But there will be no power in your hand.
The fruit of your land and all your work shall eat a people that you have never known: and you shall be oppressed and broken every day.
And thou shalt be terrified that thou shalt see with thine eyes.
The LORD will smite you with sore knees and legs that you cannot heal from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.
The Lord will bring you and your king whom you have set over you, to a people whom you have neither known nor your fathers; and there thou shalt serve other gods, the stick and the stone.
And thou shalt be astonished, and as saying, and as a fable unto all the nations, which the LORD shall bring thee.
Thou shalt sow much seed into the field; but you shall reap little, because the locust shall consume.
You shall plant vineyards and cultivate; but you shall not drink wine, nor reap the grapes, for the creature shall reap them.
In all your terms you shall have olive trees, but you shall not anoint yourself with oil; For the olive shall fall from your olive tree.
You shall bear sons and daughters; but they will not be for you; because they will go into captivity.
All your trees and the fruit of your land shall consume the caterpillar.
The stranger that is in your midst shall tower above you, and you shall come low;
He will lend to you, but you will not lend to him: he will be for the head, and you will be the tail.
And all these curses shall come upon thee, and pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed: for thou shalt not hearkened unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes, which he commanded thee:
And they shall be with thee for a sign and for wonder, and also for thy seed for ever.
For thou shalt not serve the Lord thy God with gladness and kindness of heart for the abundance of all.
Thus shalt thou serve thy enemies, whom the LORD will send against thee, with hunger and thirst, and with nakedness, and wanting all things: and she shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until it be destroyed.
Yahweh will raise up against you a nation from afar, from the end of the earth, flying like an eagle, a nation whose language you will not understand.
A fierce nation of face, which will not look upon the old man's face, nor pity the young man;
And he shall eat the fruit of thy beasts, and the fruit of thy land, until it be destroyed; Thou shalt not leave thee grain, wine, nor oil, the keeping of thy cows, nor the flock of thy sheep, until he is consumed.
And he shall distress thee at all thy gates, till thy high and strong walls fall, wherein they trusted in all thy land; and it will distress you even in all your gates, in all your land, which the LORD your God has given you:
And thou shalt eat the fruit of thy womb the flesh of thy sons and thy daughters, which the LORD thy God shall give thee, in the siege and in the tightness wherewith thy enemies shall bind thee.
As for the most meek and most gentle man among you, his eye will be evil against his brother, and against the woman of his lap, and against the rest of his sons who remain to him;
Therefore he shall not give to any of them the flesh of his sons whom he shall eat, because there is nothing left for him in the siege and in the tightness wherewith thine enemy shall tighten thee in all thy gates.
And as for the most tender and gentle woman among you, who has never tried to put the sole of her foot on the earth, the evil of her eye against the man of her lap, and against her son, and against her. his daughter;
And this because of his lands that go out from under his feet, and because of his children which he hath; For they will eat them in secret for want of everything, in the siege and in the grip with which your enemy will press you in your gates.
If thou be careful not to keep all the words of this law which are written in this book, to fear this glorious and terrible name, the Lord thy God,
Then shall the LORD make thy plagues and the plagues of thy seed wonderful, great and enduring plagues, and wicked and enduring diseases;
And he will bring back upon thee all the evils of Egypt, which thou hast feared, and will cleave unto thee.
And Jehovah shall cause all sickness and every plague upon you, which is not written in the book of this law, until it be destroyed.
And ye shall be but few men, but instead of being as the stars of the heavens in multitude, because ye have not heard the voice of the LORD thy God.
And it shall come to pass, as the Lord delighted in you, to do you good and multiply you, so that the Lord delight to destroy you and consume you; and you will be uprooted from the land which you now possess.
And the LORD shall scatter you among all peoples from one end of the earth: and there thou shalt serve other gods, which thou hast not known, neither thou nor thy fathers, by sticks and stones.
And thou shalt not rest among the same people, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: for the LORD there shalt give thee a trembling heart, and faintness of the eyes, and faintness of the soul.
And your life as suspended shall be before you; and you shall tremble by night and by day, and you shall not believe in your own life.
In the morning you will say, Ah! I wish I could see the night! And in the afternoon you will say: Ah! I wish I could see the morning! by the amazement of your heart, wherewith thou shalt be amazed, and by what thou shalt see with thine eyes.
And the Lord will bring you back to Egypt in ships, by the way of which I have said, Thou shalt never see him: and there thou shalt be sold by servants and maidservants to your enemies; but there will be no one to buy you.
