Deuteronomy 24
Charity to the poor, foreigners and orphans
Thou shalt not oppress the poor and needy journeyman of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land, and in thy gates.
In his day thou shalt give him his journal, and the sun shall not set thereon: because he is poor, and his soul dwelleth upon it, lest he cry unto thee unto the LORD, and sin be unto thee.
Parents shall not die for their children, neither children for their fathers: each one shall die for his sin.
Thou shalt not pervert the right of a stranger and an orphan; neither shall you pledge the widow's garment.
But you will remember that you were a servant in Egypt, and that the Lord delivered you from there: therefore I command you to do this.
When you reap your harvest in your field, and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not take it again. to the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow; that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
When you shake your olive tree, you shall not shake the branches behind you again: to the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow.
When you gather your vineyard, you shall not grow it behind you again. to the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow.
And you shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt: therefore I command you to do this.
