Song of Solomon 5
The bride feigns indifference to her husband, but immediately follows him, seeks him, and is reconciled with him.
I have come to my garden, my sister, my bride; I have gathered my myrrh with my spice, I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey, I have drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, my friends, drink deeply, my beloved.
I slept, but my heart was awake; behold, the voice of my beloved knocking: Open to me, my sister, my friend, my dove, my undefiled one, for my head is full of dew, my locks with the drops of the night.
I have taken off my clothes; how shall I put them back on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them again?
My beloved put his hand through the door, and my bowels trembled for him.
I got up to open for my beloved, and my hands dripped with myrrh, and my fingers dripped with myrrh on the handles of the lock.
I opened for my beloved, but my beloved had withdrawn and was gone. My soul melted when he spoke; I sought him, but could not find him; I called to him, but he did not answer.
The watchmen who went about the city found me; they beat me, they wounded me; the keepers of the wall took my cloak from me.
I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that if you find my beloved, tell him that I am sick of love.
What is your beloved more than another beloved, O you, fairest among women? What is your beloved more than another beloved, who has so adjured us?
My beloved is pure and ruddy; he bears a banner among ten thousand.
His head is like the finest gold, his locks are curly, black as a raven.
His eyes are like doves beside streams of water, washed in milk, set in a setting.
His cheeks are like a bed of balsam, like hills of fragrant herbs; his lips are like lilies dripping with myrrh.
His hands are like rings of gold set with turquoise; his belly is like white ivory overlaid with sapphires.
His legs are like pillars of marble, set on bases of pure gold; his appearance is like Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.
His speech is most sweet; yes, he is altogether lovely. Such is my beloved, such is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.
