Balak builds seven altars
1 And Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven calves and seven rams.
2 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and Balak and Balaam offered a calf and a ram on every altar.
3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt-offering, and I will go; the Lord will meet me and I will notify him. Then he went to a halt.
4 And when God was with Balaam, he said to him, I have prepared seven altars, and have offered a calf and a ram on every altar.
5 And the LORD put the word in the mouth of Balaam, and said, Return unto Balak, and speak thus.
6 And turning to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, he and all the princes of Moab.
7 And he set up his parable, and said, Aaron sent me to bring Balak king of the Moabites from the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me to Jacob; and come, hates Israel.
8 How shall I curse what God does not curse? and how shall I detest, when the Lord hates not?
9 For I see him from the top of the rocks, and from the hills I behold him: behold, this people shall dwell alone, and it shall not be numbered among the heathen.
10 Who shall count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? my soul shall die of the death of the righteous, and may my end be as yours.
11 And Balak said to Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I called you to curse my enemies, but behold, you have blessed him.
12 And he answered and said, Shall I not take heed to speak what Jehovah hath put in my mouth?
13 And Balak said unto him, I pray thee, come with me to another place, from whence thou shalt see it; you will see only the last part of it, but you will not see it all; and curse me there.
14 And he took him with him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah: and he built seven altars, and offered a calf and a ram on every altar.
15 And he said to Balak, Stand here at the place of your burnt offering, and I will go there to meet you.
16 And when the LORD met Balaam, he put a word in his mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and speak thus.
17 And when he was come to him, behold, he stood by the burnt-offering, and the princes of the Moabites with him: Balak said unto him, What thing hath Jehovah spoken?
