Clean and filthy animals
1 Ye are sons of the LORD your God, and ye shall not deal blows, nor make baldness among your eyes because of the dead.
2 For thou art a holy people unto the LORD thy God: and the LORD hath chosen thee out of all the peoples that are upon the face of the earth, to be his own people unto them.
3 You shall not eat any abomination. These are the animals you will eat:
4 The ox, the flock of sheep, and the flock of goats,
5 The deer and the doe and the buffalo and the mountain goat and the badger and the wild ox and the deer.
6 Every beast that has a split nail, that has a nail divided in two, that shall eat, among the beasts, ye shall eat.
7 But these shall ye not eat, of them that only eat, or that have a split nail: The camel, and a hare, and a rabbit, because they row but have not a broken nail: they shall be unclean to you.
8 Neither does the pig, because he has cracked nails, but does not eat; It shall be unclean unto you, that ye shall not eat their flesh, neither shall they touch their dead body.
9 This shall ye eat of all that is in the waters: All that have fins and scales shall ye eat.
10 But whatsoever have neither fins nor scales shall ye not eat: they shall be unclean to you.
11 Every clean bird you shall eat.
12 But these are the things that ye shall not eat: The eagle, and the broken creature, and the xofrango,
13 And the vulture, and the catch, and the corn, after their kind.
14 And every raven after his kind,
15 And the ostrich, and the owl, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after their kind.
16 And the snort, and the owl, and the rook,
17 And the swan, and the pelican, and the cormorant.
18 And the stork, and the heron after its kind, and spare it, and the bat.
19 Every reptile that flies shall be unclean to you: it shall not be eaten.
20 Every clean bird you shall eat.
21 You shall not eat any dead animal; To the stranger that is within your gates shall you feed it, or sell it to the stranger, because you are a holy people to the LORD your God. You will not boil the kid with its mother's milk.
