Deuteronomy 13
The Punishment of False Prophets and Idolaters
When a prophet or a dreamer arises among you, and gives you a sign or wonder,
And such a sign or wonder, which I have spoken to you, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and serve them.
Thou shalt not hear the words of that prophet or dream dreamer: Because the LORD your God tryeth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul.
Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and hear his voice, and serve him, and draw near unto him.
And that prophet or dreamer of dreams shall die, because he hath rebelled against the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, to depart from the way which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. in him: thus shalt thou remove evil from among you.
When his brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend, who is like to you, urge you, saying in secret, Let us go and serve other gods you have not known, neither you nor your fathers;
Among the gods of the peoples that are around you, near or far from you, from one end of the earth to the other;
Thou shalt not consent to him, nor hearken unto him, neither shall thy eye spare him, nor pity him, nor hide him;
But surely you will kill him; your hand will be first against him to kill him; and then the hand of all the people.
And thou shalt stone him with stones, till he die: for he sought thee to depart from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage:
That all Israel should hear and fear it, and do not do this evil thing among you again.
When you hear of one of your cities, which the LORD your God gives you to dwell in:
And some men of the children of Belial came out from among you, who stirred up the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods whom thou hast not known;
Then shalt thou inquire, and know thyself, and diligently shalt thou ask; And, behold, when this thing is true, it is certain that such an abomination has been done among you.
And thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, by destroying it and all that is therein with the edge of the sword.
And thou shalt gather all their spoil in the midst of their square; and the city and all its spoil shall be utterly burned unto the LORD thy God, and it shall be a everlasting heap; it will never be built again.
Neither shall the hand take hold of thy anathema, that the LORD may depart from the fierceness of his anger, and show thee mercy, and have mercy on thee, and multiply thee, as he swore unto thy fathers;
When you hear the voice of the LORD your God, to keep all his commandments which I command you this day, to do what is right in the sight of the LORD your God.
