Deuteronomy 08 Exhortation to Remember the Lord's Benefits

Deuteronomy 08
Exhortation to Remember the Lord's Benefits
All the commandments which I command you to keep this day, that ye may live, and multiply, and enter in, and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers.
And thou shalt remember all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble thee, and to tempt thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether or not to keep his commandments.
And he humbled you, and let you hunger, and sustained you with manna, which you did not know, neither did your fathers know: to make you understand that a man shall not live by bread alone, but by all that cometh out. From the mouth of the Lord shall a man live.
Your dress has never aged on you, nor has your foot swelled in these forty years.
Therefore confess in your heart that as a man punishes his son, so the Lord your God punishes you.
And keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to fear him, and to walk in his ways.
For the LORD your God puts you in a good land, a land of streams of water, of fountains, and of deeps, that go forth out of the valleys and mountains;
A land of wheat and barley, and of vines, and figs, and pomegranates; land of olive trees, abundant with oil and honey;
A land where thou shalt eat bread without scarcity, and nothing shall lack in it: lands whose stones are iron, and from whose mountains thou shalt dig in the copper.
When therefore you have eaten, and are filled, you shall praise the LORD your God for the good land which he gave you.
Take heed that you do not forget the LORD your God, by not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command you this day:
That then, having eaten and being filled, and having built good houses, and dwelling in them,
And if your cows and your sheep have increased, and silver and gold be added, and all that you have multiplied,
Except thy heart be high, and forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;
Who led you through that great and terrible wilderness of fiery serpents and scorpions and dryness, where there was no water; He drew water for you from the rock of Seixal.
Who sustained you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know; to humble you, and to prove you, to do good in your end;
And say in your heart, My strength, and the strength of my arm, has gained me this power.
But remember the Lord your God, who gives you strength to gain power. to confirm his covenant, which he swore to thy fathers; as seen on this day.
If, however, you forget the Lord your God, and if you hear other gods, and serve them, and bow down to them, today I protest against you, that ye shall surely perish.
As the people whom the LORD destroyed before you, so shall you be destroyed: because ye would not obey the voice of the LORD your God.
