The destruction of the Canaanites and their idols is ordered
1 When the LORD your God has brought you into the land which you shall possess, and has cast out many people from before you, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven people more numerous and mightier than you;
2 And the LORD thy God hath given them before thee, to smite them, thou shalt utterly destroy them; Thou shalt not make a covenant with them, nor pity them;
3 Neither shalt thou look unto them: Thou shalt not give thy daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto thy sons;
4 For they will turn thy children away from me, that they may serve other gods; and the wrath of the LORD would be kindled against you, and it would quickly devour you.
5 But thus shall ye do unto them, and break down their altars, and break their statues; and ye shall cut down their wood, and burn their graven images with fire.
6 For you are a holy people to the LORD your God: the LORD your God has chosen you, to be His own people, of all the peoples on the earth.
7 The LORD took no pleasure in you, neither chose you, because your multitude was more than all other peoples, for you are less in number than all peoples:
8 But because the Lord loved you, and to keep the oath which he had sworn to your fathers, the Lord took you with a strong hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 Thou shalt know then that the Lord thy God is God, the faithful God, who keepeth covenant and mercy unto a thousand generations unto them that I love, and keep his commandments;
10 And he pays his wages to anyone who hates them, and causes him to perish: he shall not be remitted to him who hates him; in your face you will pay it.
11 Keep therefore the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments which I command you to do this day.
12 And if these judgments ye shall keep, and do them, the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he swore unto thy fathers.
13 And he will love you, and bless you, and make you multiply, and bless the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your land, your grain, and your wine, and your oil, and the breeding of your cows, and the flock of your small cattle, in the land which your father swore to give you.
14 Blessed shall be more than all peoples: neither shall there be male or female among you, nor barren among thy beasts.
15 And the LORD will turn away from thee all sickness: he shall put none of the evil diseases of the Egyptians which thou knowest shall be put upon thee, but he shall put them upon all that hate thee.
16 For he shall consume all the peoples whom the LORD thy God shall give thee: thy eye shall not spare them: and thou shalt not serve their gods: for it would be a snare unto thee.
17 If you say in your heart, These people are greater than I; how can I throw them away?
18 Do not be afraid of them; be sure that you remember what the LORD your God has done to Pharaoh and to all the Egyptians.
19 Of the great trials that thy eyes have seen, and the signs, and wonders, and the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, wherewith the LORD thy God hath taken thee away: thus shall the LORD thy God do unto all the peoples, before whom thou fearest. .
20 And the LORD thy God among them shall send hornets, till they that perish, and hide themselves from before thee.
21 Do not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God is in your midst, the great and terrible God.
22 And the LORD thy God will cast out these people little by little before thee: thou shalt not be able to destroy them all at once, that the beasts of the field may not multiply against thee.
23 And the Lord shall give them before thee, and shall cause them to be astonished, until they be destroyed.
24 And his kings shall deliver thee into his hand, that he may cut off his names from under the heavens: No man shall stand before thee until thou destroy them.
25 The graven images of their gods shall you burn with fire; The silver and the gold that is upon them shall you not covet, nor take them for yourself, lest you be entangled in them; For abomination is to the LORD your God.
26 Thou shalt not therefore put abomination in thy house, lest she be accursed, even as she is: thou shalt abhor her utterly, and abominably, for anathema is.
