Pharaoh afflicts the Israelites
6 And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
7 Henceforth no more give the people straw to make bricks, as you did yesterday and the day before; let them go and gather straw for themselves.
8 And lay upon them the number of bricks which they made yesterday and the day before; not diminish it, for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
9 Let the service of these men, that they may labor in it, and do not trust in lying words.
10 Then came the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw;
11 Go ye, get you straw where to find him; because nothing is diminished from your service.
12 So the people scattered throughout the land of Egypt, to gather stubble for straw.
13 And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, I just got your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.
14 And were beaten officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, saying these: Why do not you have just your task yesterday and today, in making brick as before?
15 And they departed the officers of the children of Israel cried out to Pharaoh, saying, Why do you do so with your servants?
16 There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they tell us: Make brick; and behold, thy servants are beaten; But your people are to blame.
17 But he said, Ye are idle; ye are idle; therefore ye say, Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.
18 Go therefore now, and work; straw but not give you; however, you shall give the number of bricks.
19 And the children of Israel officials found themselves in distress, when they said: not diminish anything from your bricks, day in its day.
