Exodus 12
The institution of the first Easter
And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying:
This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year.
Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for each household.
But if the household is too small for a lamb, then take one with your neighbor next to his house, according to the number of souls: according to eat each shall make your count for the lamb.
The lamb, or kid shall be without blemish, a male a year, ye shall take it from the sheep or goats,
And ye shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the afternoon.
And they shall take of the blood, and put it will be on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.
And that night they shall eat the meat roasted over the fire, and unleavened bread; with bitter herb to eat.
Do not eat it raw, nor boiled in water, but roast with fire; his head with his feet and with the entrails.
And nothing shall leave it until tomorrow: but what remains of it until tomorrow, burn with fire.
So shall ye eat it: with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand: and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD's passover.
And I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord.
And the blood shall be a sign on the houses where you are; when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague among you of mortality, when I smite the land of Egypt.
And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall celebrate it by feast to the LORD throughout your generations the feast by a statute.
Seven days shall eat unleavened bread: the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses; for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
And the first day shall be a holy convocation: in the seventh day ye shall have a holy convocation: no work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat; You only may be done for you.
Take heed for the feast of unleavened bread, because on that very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore shall you observe this day in your generations by a perpetual statute.
In the first month, the fourteenth day of the month, in the afternoon, you shall eat unleavened bread until twenty-one month in the afternoon.
Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses; for whosoever eateth leavened bread, that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, and the stranger as the native-born.
You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.
Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them: Choose and take yourselves lambs for your families, sacrificial Easter.
Then take up one bunch of hyssop, and molhai it in the blood that is in the basin, and throw on the lintel, and on the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin; but no door you leave your house until the morning.
For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians but when you see the blood on the lintel, and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
So guard it by statute for you and your children forever.
And it shall be when you come into the land which the Lord will give you, as He hath spoken, keep this service.
And it shall be, when your children shall say unto you, let your worship is this?
Then you will say: This is the sacrifice of Passover to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed and worshiped.
And the children of Israel, and did so: as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
