Exodus 19
God speaks to Moses on Mount Sinai
In the third month of the departure of the children of Israel out of Egypt, the same day came to the Sinai desert.
Taking advantage of Rephidim, they came to the desert of Sinai and encamped in the desert: Israel because there encamped in front of the mountain.
And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and announce to the children of Israel:
I have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself;
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice and keep my covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all peoples for all the earth is mine.
And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and holy people. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
And Moses came and called the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the Lord had commanded him.
And all the people answered with one voice, and said, All that the Lord has spoken we will do. And Moses the Lord the words of the people.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, I come unto thee in a thick cloud so that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and also believe forever. Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.
And the Lord said to Moses, Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes;
And be ready for the third day, because on the third day the Lord will come down before the eyes of all the people on Mount Sinai.
And set bounds to the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, do not go up the mountain or touch the border; every one who touches the mountain will surely die.
No hand will touch it: it will be surely stoned, or shot through; whether animal, whether man shall not live; sounding the horn length, then go up to the mountain.
Then Moses came down the mountain to the people, and sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes.
And he said to them: Be ready against the third day; and not near a woman.
And it happened on the third day, at dawn, there was thunder and lightning over the hill, and a thick cloud, and sound of very loud horn, so that shook all the people that was in the camp.
And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the foot of the hill.
And all the mountain of Sinai was smoking, for the Lord descended upon it in fire: and its smoke ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
And the voice of the trumpet grew in great way, Moses spoke, and God answered him aloud.
And down the Lord on Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain; and Moses went up.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, protest to the people not to trespass the term to see the Lord, so many of them perish.
And the priests who come near to the Lord if you are to sanctify, so that the Lord will break out against them.
And Moses said to the Lord: The people can not come up to Mount Sinai, because you have us protested, saying, Set bounds to the mountain, and sanctify it.
And the Lord said to him: goes down: After you ascend, and Aaron with thee: but the priests and the people do not trespassem the term up to the Lord, lest he break forth upon them.
Then Moses went down to the people, and that he told them.
