II Kings 02 Elijah is taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire

 II Kings 02

Elijah is taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire

1 Now it came to pass, when the Lord was about to take up Elijah by a whirlwind to heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

2 And Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Bethel." But Elisha said, "As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." So they went to Bethel.

3 Then the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came to Elisha and said to him, "Do you know that the Lord will take your master from over you today?" And he said, "I know it also; hold your peace."

4 And Elijah said to him, "Stay here, Elisha, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho." But he said, "As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." So they came to Jericho.

5 Then the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take your master from over you today?” He said, “I know it too; hold your peace.”

6 Elijah said, “Stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they both went together.

7 Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite; they both stood by the Jordan.

8 Then Elijah took his mantle, folded it, and struck the waters, and they divided hither and thither, and they both went over on dry ground.

9 When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”

10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it will be done for thee; but if not, it shall not be done.

11 And it came to pass, as they went on and talked, that, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

2 E disse Elias a Eliseu: Fica-te aqui, porque o Senhor me enviou a Betel.

E ele disse: Também eu bem o sei; calai-vos.

4 E Elias lhe disse: Eliseu, fica-teaqui, porque o Senhor me enviou a Jericó. E assim vieram a Jericó.

E ele disse: Também eu bem o sei; calai-vos.

6 E Elias disse: Fica-te aqui, porque o Senhor me enviou ao Jordão.

II Kings 01 Fire from heaven consumes a hundred men

 II Kings 01

Fire from heaven consumes a hundred men

9 Then he sent a captain of fifty to him, and he went up to him (for he was sitting on the top of the mountain) and said to them, “Man of God, the king says, ‘Come down.’”

10 But Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

11 Then he sent another captain of fifty with his fifty and spoke to him and said, “Man of God, thus says the king, ‘Come down quickly.’”

12 Then Elijah answered and said to him, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

13 And he sent again another captain of the third fifty with his fifty. Then the captain of fifty went up and came and fell on his knees before Elijah and begged him, and said to him, “Man of God, I pray thee, let my life and the life of these fifty thy servants be precious in thy sight.

14 And behold, fire came down from heaven, and consumed the first two captains of fifty, and their fifty: but now let my life be precious in thy sight.”

15 And the angel of the LORD said to Elijah, “Go down with him; fear not.” And he arose, and went down with him to the king.

16 And he said to him, Thus saith the LORD, Why have you sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? Is it because there is no God in Israel, to inquire of his word? Therefore from this bed whereon thou art gone up, thou shalt not come down, but shalt surely die.

17 And he said to him, Thus saith the LORD, Why have you sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? Is it because there is no God in Israel, to inquire of his word? Therefore from this bed whereon thou art gone up, thou shalt not come down, but shalt surely die. 17 So he died according to the word of the Lord which Elijah had spoken; and Joram began to reign in his place in the second year of Joram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, for he had no son.

18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

II Reis 01 O fogo do céu consome cem homens

 II Reis 01

O fogo do céu consome cem homens

II Kings 01 Moab Revolts Against Israel

 II Kings 01

Moab Revolts Against Israel

1 After the death of Ahab, Moab rebelled against Israel.

2 Ahaziah fell through the lattice of an upper room that he had in Samaria and became sick. He sent messengers and said to them, "Go and inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this disease."

3 But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, "Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you should go to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?'

4 Therefore thus says the Lord: 'You shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.'" So Elijah departed.

5 And the messengers returned to him, and he said to them, "Why are you back?"

6 And they said to him, A man came out to meet us, and said to us, Go back to the king who sent you, and say to him, Thus says the Lord: Is it because there is no God in Israel, that you send to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.

7 And he said to them, What was the apparel of the man who came to meet you and spoke these words to you?

8 And they said to him, It was a man clothed with hair, and his loins were girded with a leather belt. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.

II Reis 01 Moabe revolta-se conttra Israel

 II Reis 01

1 Kings 22 The Reign of Jehoshaphat and His Death

 1 Kings 22

The Reign of Jehoshaphat and His Death

41 Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilki.

43 He walked in all the ways of his father Asa and did not turn aside from them, doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

44 Nevertheless the high places were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

45 And Jehoshaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.

46 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he fought, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

47 He also banished from the land the rest of the young men who were rebellious in the days of Asa his father.

48 At that time there was no king in Edom, but a viceroy.

49 And Jehoshaphat made ships from Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold; but they did not go, for the ships were broken at Ezion Geber.

50 Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "Let my servants go with your servants in the ships." But Jehoshaphat would not.

51 So Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father. And Joram his son reigned in his place.

52 And Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.

53 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, for he walked in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

54 And he served Baal, and bowed down to him, and provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger, according to all that his father had done.

I Reis 22

1 Kings 22 The War Against the Syrians and the Death of Ahab

 1 Kings 22

The War Against the Syrians and the Death of Ahab

29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.

30 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself and go to battle; but you put on your clothes." So the king of Israel disguised himself and went to battle.

31 And the king of Syria commanded the thirty-two captains of the chariots, saying, "Fight neither with small nor great, but only with the king of Israel."

32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely this is the king of Israel. And they drew near to fight with him, but Jehoshaphat shouted.

33 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.

34 Then a man drew his bow in his simplicity and struck the king of Israel between his buckles and his breastplate. Then he said to his charioteer, “Turn your hand and take me out of the army, for I am badly wounded.”

35 The battle grew fierce that day, and the king stood in his chariot opposite the Syrians. But he died in the evening, and the blood from his wound ran down into the bottom of his chariot.

36 After sunset, a proclamation was made throughout the army, “Every man to his city and every man to his land.”

37 So the king died, and they brought him to Samaria. They buried the king in Samaria.

38 When the chariot was washed in the pool of Samaria, the dogs licked up his blood (now the prostitutes used to wash there), according to the word of the Lord which he had spoken.

39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the house of ivory which he built, and all the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

40 So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.

I Reis 22

1 Kings 22 Ahab Makes an Alliance with Jehoshaphat

 1 Kings 22

Ahab Makes an Alliance with Jehoshaphat

1 They were quiet for three years, and there was no war between Syria and Israel.

2 But in the third year it happened that Jehoshaphat king of Judah went down to the king of Israel.

3 And the king of Israel said to his servants, Do you not know that Ramoth-gilead is ours, and we have been quiet, and have not taken it out of the hand of the king of Syria?

4 Then he said to Jehoshaphat, Will you go with me to battle at Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I will be as you, and my people as your people, and my horses as your horses.

5 And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, But first inquire at the word of the LORD today.

6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go to battle against Ramoth-gilead, or shall I refrain? And they said, Go up, for the Lord will deliver her into the hand of the king.

7 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here yet a prophet of the Lord, whom we may inquire of?

8 Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he never prophesies good of me, but only evil: he is Micah the son of Imlah. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king speak so.

9 Then the king of Israel called an eunuch, and said, Bring me quickly Micah the son of Imlah.

10 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting, each on his throne, clothed in royal apparel, in the square at the entrance of the gate of Samaria: and all the prophets prophesied before them.

11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made himself horns of iron, and said, Thus saith the LORD, With these shalt thou smite the Syrians until thou hast consumed them.

12 And all the prophets prophesied thus, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper; for the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king.

13 And the messenger that went to call Micah spake unto him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets with one accord are prophesying good things for the king: let thy word be as the word of one of them, and speak well.

14 And Micah said, As the LORD liveth, I will speak what the LORD saith unto me.

15 And he came to the king, and the king said unto him, Micah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he said unto him, Go up, and prosper; for the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king.

16 And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure thee, that thou speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?

17 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.

18 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would never prophesy good of me, but only evil?

19 And he said, Hear the word of the LORD; I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

20 And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said this way, and another that way.

21 And a spirit came forth, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him. And the LORD said to him, With what?

22 And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt entice him, and thou shalt yet prevail: go forth, and do so.

23 And now, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.

24 Then Zedekiah the son of Canaan came near, and smote Micah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the spirit of the LORD from me to speak against thee?

25 And Micah said, Behold, thou shalt see it in that day, when thou shalt go from one chamber to another to hide thyself.

26 Then the king of Israel said, "Take Micah and bring him back to Amon, the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son.

27 And you shall say, 'Thus says the king: Put this man in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of bitterness, until I come in peace.'

28 And Micah said, 'If you return in peace, the Lord has not spoken through me.' And he said, 'Hear, all you peoples!

I Reis 22 Acabe faz aliança com Josafá

I Reis 22

21 देख, मैं तुझ पर विपत्ति डालूंगा, और तेरे वंश को, अर्यात् अहाब में से सब पुरूषोंको, और बन्दोंऔर इस्राएल के सब मनुष्योंको नाश करूंगा;

1 Kings 21 God Sends Elijah to Threaten Ahab

 1 Kings 21

God Sends Elijah to Threaten Ahab

17 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

18 Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who is in Samaria; behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it.

19 And you shall speak to him, saying, Thus says the Lord: Did you not murder and take possession of the inheritance? Then you shall speak to him, saying, Thus says the Lord: In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs shall lick your blood, even your own.

20 And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me my enemy? And he said, I have found you, for you have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the Lord.

21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will cut off thy seed, and will cut off every male from Ahab, and the shut up and forsaken in Israel:

22 And I will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, because of the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me, and hast made Israel to sin.

23 And concerning Jezebel also the LORD spake, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.

24 Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field the birds of the air shall eat.

25 But there was none like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the sight of the LORD: for Jezebel his wife stirred him up.

26 And he committed great abominations, following idols, according to all that the Amorites had done, whom the Lord had driven out before the children of Israel.

27 When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his body, and fasted; and he lay in sackcloth, and walked quietly.

28 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

29 Have you not seen how Ahab humbles himself before Me? Because he humbles himself before Me, I will not bring this evil in his days; but in the days of his son I will bring this evil on his house.

I Reis 21 Deus manda Elias ameaçar a Acabe

 I Reis 21

Deus manda Elias ameaçar a Acabe

17 Então veio a palavra do Senhor a Elias, o tesbita, dizendo:

20 E disse Acabe a Elias: Já me achaste inimigo meu?

21 Eis que trarei mal sobre ti, e arrancarei a tua posteridade e arrancarei de Acabe a todo homem, como também encerrado e o desamparado em Israel;

28 Então veio a palavra do Senhor a Elias tesbita, dizendo:
