The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 31

The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 31

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses and trust in chariots, because they are many, and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the Lord.

Yet he is wise, and will bring evil and will not recall his words; he will rise up against the house of evildoers and against the help of those who work iniquity.

For the Egyptians are men, and not God, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord stretches out his hand, both the helper and the helped will fall to the ground, and they will all be consumed together.

For thus said the Lord to me: As a lion and a young lion roar over their prey, though a multitude of shepherds are gathered against him, and they are not terrified at their voice, nor are they dismayed by their multitude, so the Lord of hosts will come down to fight for Mount Zion and for her hill.

As birds fly, so the Lord of hosts will defend Jerusalem; he will defend and deliver her, and pass through and save her.

Therefore return to him against whom the children of Israel have so deeply rebelled.

For in that day everyone will cast away their idols of silver and their idols of gold, which your hands made for you to sin.

And Assyria will fall by the sword, not of man; and the sword, not of man, will devour her. She will flee before the sword, and her young men will be defeated.

And his rock shall pass away for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the standard, saith the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
