The Book of the Prophet Isaiah 22
Shebna is Degraded: Eliakim is Exalted
Thus says the Lord GOD of Hosts: Go, go to this treasurer, to Shebna the one over the household, and say to him:
What do you have here? Or who do you have here, that you have dug a grave for yourself here? Digging his grave in a high place, chiseling a dwelling place for yourself in the rock!
Behold, the LORD will throw you down like a strong man, and will completely engulf you.
He will roll you down, as a ball is rolled in a broad and spacious land; there you will die, and there will be the chariots of your glory, the disgrace of the house of your Lord.
And I will remove you from your office and tear you down from your seat.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah:
And I will clothe him with your robe, and I will strengthen him with your sling, and I will deliver your dominion into his hand; and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder; and he shall open, and no one shall shut; and he shall shut, and no one shall open.
And I will fasten him like a peg in a sure place; and he shall be a pillar of glory to his father's house.
And on him shall hang all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the offspring, every small vessel, from the cups to the flagons.
In that day, declares the Lord of hosts, the peg that was fastened in a sure place shall be removed; it shall be pulled out, and it shall fall, and the burden that was upon it shall be loosed; for the Lord hath spoken it.
